I know a few of you will be having interviews soon. I wish you all success. In case you didn't see it you may want to look what I wrote immediately after our interview back in March. My girl was watching and listening and helped me write this a few days after her interview. This is just about everything I know about the interview.

Also, take time to generate more "evidence" now.

It seems that recently the COs have taken an increased interest in actual "relationship stuff" that most of us guys would overlook. I know I didn't even think about the e-mails and things that I had sent to Elena or the letters or anything like that, (I was worried about phone records and bills, plane tickets, etc.) but the one thing that seemed to "seal the deal" for us was my letters to her in Russian and her printing out the pictures and messages that I had e-mailed to her.

Just a broad generalization here, but the COs are mostly female now, so your fiance(e) needs to prove that he/she really loves you more than anything else. If you hit them with the storybook romance.... what woman can resist that?

Thanks to all! (Yes, Satellite, it was about time!) Elena e-mailed me yesterday and said it was officially OK to break out the champagne and celebarte. DHL delivered the passport to her house with the visa in it. (No more superstitions - talking about something before it happens and messing it up. Nope. - We're good now.)

So, the new Journey begins.

Good luck to all who now have dates (Feels good doesn't it?) and those who are still awaiting.

My fiance has her interview set for September 21, 2006. Does anyone know what sort of queestions can they ask her duing the interview? Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Does it really take one week after the interview has been passed to get the visa?

You actually work for the USCIS and you have questions concerning the process? That makes it a little disheartening. What area do you work for if it is not a secret?

Satellite,

The State Department handles approved petitions after they are sent to NVC. USCIS is a totally separate entity than the State Department. USCIS can't even know who are the consular officers in the US embassies overseas. By the way, K1 and K3 cases are in such a backlog at CSC because CSC is taking all these added work from TSC and VSC. USCIS is basically making CSC take on more cases than it can handle. All of this has caused people to ask why their K1 or K3 cases are taking so long to get approved. All that I can tell you the bureacrats at DHS have totally done a disservice to all the customers from USCIS.

Somewho I doubt a CO would falsely misrepresent the K1 or K3, because both visas are classified as non-immigrant visas.

I had this discussion with a CO at the embassy in Moscow when we had a problem with my soon to be step-daughter. As I recall he said something about a "immigrant visa" and I told him I thought it was a non-immigrant visa. He smiled and said "well it is, but it isn't." So I guess we can think of it as a non-immigrant visa that usually is intended to lead to immigration.

My point is that it was "misrepresented" to me by a CO in March!

I was just being techincal really. I've also heard K visas called dual intent visas, implies both a guest and immigrant status I suppose. Which in my opinion implies choice. Mention choice and a K visa and the majority of VJ members will pounce on you for visa fraud which I think is uncalled for. Simply because a letter of intent to marry treated as a contract to marry is unenforceable as against public policy.

And if we want to get really techinical we are paying only $100 for the "non-immigrant" visa instead of $330 for the "immigrant" visa.

And correcting the CO at the interview is probably not the best apporach anyway :P
