For the second time since I've been a member, and that I know of anyway, a thread is gone. Not locked, not moved. Gone. How does this happen?

Just wondering.

Thanks for any info.

the thread might have been made invisible..

I've never heard of this before. Invisible to some but not everyone? Who makes anything invisible here? For what purpose?

I'm not sure what post you're talking about.

The moderators are the only ones who can make threads invisible if the post violates the TOS.

All information is sent to Ewok before any deletions are made.

Carla, can you remember what the thread was about and where it was posted? Maybe I can find out what happened and fill you in. :)

I posted this thread here and commented on the disappearance of the thread in the Canada forum, and many people have told me now that I guess it's probably been made invisible. It was the Women's Shelter thread. I guess I always figured that if a thread was offensive, or was against TOS that it would be closed. I just didn't know someone had the capability, or desire to make them invisible. It had happened once before, and I thought it was me, but I guess not.

I was just curious as to how something that was there, wasn't anymore!

Thanks again for you help and enlightenment!

If it's not already policy, it might be a good idea that if a thread is going to be made invisible, that the invisinating (real word!!!) moderator write up a new placeholder post, noting the reason why. The placeholder could even be locked, but it would create transparency in the moderation process.

We normally PM the OP and tell them what's going on - if it wasn't an OP request in the first place, that is.

Invisinating's a real word?

In a perfect world everyone would be happy. :)

I try to alert the OP's when I move or 'invisibilize' (for mox) a thread but I would probably be here all day if I did it with every post.

Carla, I know I did not move that thread or make it invisible so I have no idea but will have a look into it.

Does it really happen that frequently? Granted, the circles I travel in these days are pretty narrow, but I just sort of assumed the instances of invisibilizing ;) threads would be pretty infrequent. I can't remember the last time I noticed one had gone missing. Am I wrong?

Yeah, it happens ALL the time. People post the weirdest cr@p here... and a lot of it.

It's mostly spam or offensive posts that are made invisible and normally we notify the OP, especially if the person is a regular poster here.

The mods here seem to do a good job of taking care of it pretty quickly and we've got a couple Organizers that also keep an eye out and PM/email us if something needs taking care of.

I'm a big believer/supporter of the Regional forums so I try not to ever rock the boat in those places. ;) If anything I move too many things over there or point the OP there so that people will get a more accurate answer to their Embassy specific questions. Just makes more sense to me as things are so dependent on the Embassy you're dealing with.

In any case, I have no idea where Carla's post is. My guess would be that it was moved to Off topic and not made invisible but I can't seem to find it. Sorry sweetheart, i'll keep an eye out.
