Maybe if airlines charged by the pound...

It does cost airlines in fuel for every pound they raise off the ground!

I thought the above sounded like a reasonable idea. It pays for the gas. I think compensation should be given to those who are "inconvenienced" by having a 1/3 of their seat utilized by their neighbor. I also think they need to stop serving alcohol in airports and on planes. None of these things are going to happen anytime soon so why get your panties in a wad about it.

sister rocks, why do you hate the weight challenged people of america?

she's lucky i didn't kill her and her two horrible children. :innocent:

they threatened to land the plane twice because of her. perhaps i should repeat to you the torrent of abuse she gave me after the attendant had walked away to find me a seat to move to. she was pretty disgusted with my home country and made fun of it and told me to "go home" amongst other things...

Please share!

it'll come out as a bunch of #'s due to bad language not being tolerated on here. ;)

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Obese people have the right to two seats for the price of one on flights within Canada, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on Thursday.

The high court declined to hear an appeal by Canadian airlines of a decision by the Canadian Transportation Agency that people who are "functionally disabled by obesity" deserve to have two seats for one fare.

The airlines had lost an appeal at the Federal Court of Appeal in May and had sought to launch a fresh appeal at the Supreme Court. The court's decision not to hear a new appeal means the one-person-one-fare policy stands.

The appeal had been launched by Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz and WestJet.

can't wait to read about all the skinny people claiming to be obese so they can secure two seats.

YES!

My brain is obese!

If this is real and goes through as policy, then it opens the door for so many more interesting things to come into play.

I am waiting for the day of fairness to arrive.

Silly me.

For example, if your luggage weighs more than what is it 50lbs, then you have to pay a lot to have them checked.

If we had a fair system working then:

me + my luggage = total weight

I'm certain it would be far less than 80% of people.

So there...my vent.

Ahem.

:star:

My vent as well when a 120 pound woman has luggage that if four pounds overweight, my step daughter, we went back to the car and repacked her stuff adding it to a carrying on bag to save on the excessive fees. But why not me + my luggage = total weight for a fair comparison? It's that weight that consumes the fuel.

Measurable clothes-on BMI might be a better indicator of actual body mass though. They should give you self-reporting capability when purchasing online and then have a BMI measuring device while in check-in. Anyone with a clothes-on BMI drop would get money back while those that gain would pay more according to a price range starting one whole BMI point above the self-reported BMI when tickets where purchased.

Or height/weight can be used if people find BMI to be too complex.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Yes, exactly.

And what with fuel prices plummeting, isn't it time for a huge update?!

I'm thinking now.......

Maybe including "scooby snacks" in one's carry-on for the large and obnoxious would make for a more pleasant flight

if i ride along with you, i mkake certain you get 2 seats, sister amber

I'm kinda mixed on this.

Firstly, there's too many damn fat people. I don't see why society should be catering to people who can't stop stuffing their face and stomach full of the sh*t all the time. I would say make them pay for two seats, but..

Secondly, the seats in airplanes are simply way too small and tight even for normal sized people.

A clear compromise is make some more room in the seats, then, if the fatties are still too big, charge them 2 seats.

I agree with this. I think on average they're like 16-17" across in coach. Even less if you're in an exit aisle.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Agreed on all counts hermano SRVT.

The issue is they don't pay for two seats and "little people" like yours truly end up occupying only two thirds of my paid for space.

I just had that experience flying from FLL to ORD this week.

All I can say is thankgawd it was a "only" 3 hour flight.

I've been very very lucky so far in that pretty much all of my flights are right next to someone normal sized, and being an outgoing person, I usually laugh quite a bit on the flights, especially if they serve alcohol.
