I like the old three. The new three irked me - 'specially the first one. I have watched them all - the new ones. The first one - BAH. The second one - hmm...seems someone was trying to fast forward through the life of Anakin Skywalker in a similar way to how one might show a preview of an entire series... Third one - well, it was a bit like the director had been drunk the first two movies, and then had a guilty hangover when he made the third..something like "darnit...those first two should've been better...sorry folks...this one's bit better but I have an enormous hangover, so sorry if it falls down a bit in places..."

I don't think I'm being overly harsh there, do you?

You're not been harsh enough. The first three had memorable characters and lines from the movies became widely known even by people who weren't die-hard fans. By contrast, the last three had beefed up special effects and wooden acting aimed at kids too young to have seen the first three movies in the theater. George Lucas should have fallen on his light saber in disgrace.

I wouldn't do anything based on superstition, which is what I understand a 'premonition' to be.

Yeah Anakin was a bit gullible wasn't he.

Yes.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Yeah those movies were a bit $hitty - not least because he insisted on shoe-horning in old characters (R2D2, C3PO, Boba Fett, Chewbacca etc) for the nostalgia value. He should have started completely fresh. As it is - its totally implausible that Anakin Skywalker in the prequels and Darth Vader are anything like the same character. They even gone to the extent of airbrushing Hayden Christenson into the end of Return of the Jedi.

Lucas sucks at continuity.

There was some lazy storytelling in that movie - it was hardly the sort of character conflict that would plausibly push the guy over the edge to participate in genocide.

Well, to (somewhat) defend him, it took many years of manipulation by Palpatine to get Anakin morally conflicted enough to perpetrate such crimes. Unfortunately it was George Lucas writing the story & screenplay, not Lawrence Kasdan.

Yeah but he's sort of the protagonist - so what happens offscreen is out of mind and not really part of the drama.

The first two Godfather movies are a fairly good example of how a character becomes morally conflicted enough to become corrupt. All that stuff was foregrounded - in the new Star Wars, they were more interested in setting rather than in plotting.

Yoda is cool with me. He's my lil' buddy.

Ja Ja Binks (or however you spell it) however should be strung up by his ears. He is the most annoying character I have ever seen. I am a sensible, quiet (albeit a bit silly), non-violent person, but Ja Ja Binks stirs up such explosive feelings of rage (temporarily) that I actually have thought about shooting the TV when he's been on it. He really, really makes my @ss twitch (as Kevin Kline would say in "French Kiss" - a splendid movie filled with wonderful characters).

I have to agree that Anakin acted very impulsively (something Obi-Wan commented on numerous times) and was quite gullible. I would imagine a Jedi Knight would at least think things through before acting. Even if the Darkside of the Force would help enable Padme to survive child birth, I think Anakin went a little too far. How does killing children do anything for him? I would've thought that taking the children and training them to utilized the Darkside would have been a better use of resources. But no.. he kills them. I suppose Palpatine was testing his loyalty or something.

Another issue that bothered me was that Padme seemed to become less and less interesting as the movies went on. In the first one, she was the Queen of Naboo and very authoritative. In the second movie, she was very action-oriented and even helped the Jedi fight. Then in the third movie, she was thrown to the side as a "worrying and overly emotional pregnant wife."

Something similar happened with Leia, too. Look at her from Episodes IV to VI. She changed a lot and in doing so, lost some of what made her character appealing.
