My husband got his green card yesterday (yaaaay), but is worried about how his name appears. Do all green cards have only the first and last name of the PR? Will it be trouble that his middle initial isn't on there?

Mine doesn't have my middle name as well, although it does have my middle initial. I don't know if there is a standard or not. I wouldn't think it would be a big problem, but you might want to contact USCIS and see.

As long as the first name and last name are correct and it has the right photo on it I would not worry.... it is not worth the expence and long wait to get a inital added to a new card..

Kezzie

How long and how much does it take to get a new green card? My husband's middle name/initial is very important to him (long story). He included it on all the forms we sent in. Why wouldn't they put it on the card?

My card says something like:

Name: SMITH, ANASTASIA I

And then the very last line on the GC is something like:

SMITH<<ANASTASIA<IVANOVNA<<<<<<<

So, there is my middle initial at the top and my middle name spelled out at the bottom.

They should have included it, but its hard to say why it wasn't included. Does the bottom of your card have your full name? If not, I would give them a call....

Nope, the bottom of the card only has his first and last name.

Kezzie, what was the reason you requested a new card?

My husband was on the phone for an hour or so this morning and got this advice from the USCIS:

We can file an I-90, but we have to do it within the next 2 days (received the card on Saturday, so 3 business days after that). We send in all the paperwork we got from them, and if it was their error, we don't have to pay. If we do have to pay, then we can pay at a later date. It's just weird, his letters were always addressed to Tamer (last name), but that his EAD had Tamer K. (last name), so we assumed that the green card would be worded the same way as the EAD.

Even if we do have to pay, we still will have to do this. If he travels to Egypt with this green card, there's a chance that they'll throw a hissy fit and cause problems. They might not let him travel back to the US, because the middle name is missing, and in Egypt, that means he's not the person on the GC. *sigh* I just want to be done with the USCIS *arg pulls out hair*

I had to file for a new card because I never recieved the original one... I also sent all the paperworked asked for and was told no fee payable.... and after over a month I had everything returned to me saying that the fee was payable because USCIS records showed the mailed it.... so not their fault it never got to me... so I wasted a month or more and had to start over again... I had new biometrics done on May 23rd and was told at that appoint ment I will recieve my new greencard in about 6 months... just in time for me to send it back to get the conditions removed....

I would not bother with the infoline if you want a sure answer then make an infopass appointment at your local office and ask them if your card is good or not....

The day of my infopass a lady was there with the same problem no middle inital... she was told that as long as her first and last name matched her passport/certificates there was no problem but if she wanted her inital on the card she could file an I-90 pay the fee and request a new one....

Good Luck

Kezzie

I would NOT try to get a new card if it's all avoidable. I had my card arrive with another woman's photo (not exactly something I can get away with or ignore) and I sent it off in November 2005. Guess what, I still don't have my card and see no end where I may get it. I've been having to go down to the office every time I want to travel because they refuse to give me a stamp for a year. It's been nothing but a headach. If you go through with this yuo can't say we didn't warn you.

Why does Egypt care what the card says? The card is useless in Egypt. It's when you come back into the US that you need it. Or am I missing something here??

In order for an Egyptian citizen to leave Egypt with the destination being the United States, he need to show proof that he's allowed to enter the US or they won't let him out of the country. That proof can be a visa or a green card. If the GC only has his first and last name, the Egyptian government will most likely say that it isn't him, since it doesn't include the all important father's name.

When my husband left last year, they insisted on opening his visa envelope from the embassy just to make sure it was all legit  Thank God he convinced them not to. This is on top of many other hoops they make egyptians (young men especially) jump through before they can leave. Men can be detained if they don't have proof of exemption from military service, or proof that they've already served, or any number of other inane, minute beuracratic thing.

edited to add: He does have the stamp (I-551 or something?) in his passport, so he could conceivable just travel on that, but it's only good for a year.

When were you planning on traveling? Maybe you can arrange it so that you can travel before the stamp expires. Then when you apply to lift conditions ask them to make sure to change the name?
