Hi guys!

We are going for our medicals this Nov 25 and my daughter complained of a sore throat this morning. No fever though. I have started her on some antibiotics and cough meds. Antibiotics usually give the desired effect by the 3rd day. What is the worst thing that can happen to her medicals then? Am thinking of moving it to Wednesday. Couldn't have the medicals earlier d/t my monthly period. Our interview is on December 9th.

Let her take vit. C. If you can find Fern C then it's good.

a cold or a sore throat is not a visa ineligibility... what are you worried about?

YMMV

Let her take some lonzenges to ease her throat. In fact any menthol candy will do. The Snow Bear is actually IMO better than lozenges. Also, antibiotics are not recommended as this stage as your daughter may develop resistance to the antibiotics in time.

Lastly, I don't think that her coughs would be an issue. The doctors in SLEC would be know what's best for your daughter.

Hoping that your medical will go through a breeze. :)

I took a look at her throat. Children do not develop tonsils till they turn 7. In her case, her tonsil "buds" on the right has what looks like an exudate on the upper pole...may look like a canker sore or stomatitis ("singaw") to some. It irritates her throat. The cough prep is nothing more than Ascof syrup which seems to help her somewhat. She is rarely sick and is rarely on antibiotics. Ordinarily, I would not give her any, but the exudate bothers me.

Hi! Just want to share my experience about sore troat. A week ago my troat started to itch (viral or infection). I also had cold and little coughing. I been taking vit c in regular basis. My husband told me to take extra vit c (I probbaly took 4,000 mg a day to 6,000mg in maybe 3 days). You wouldnt believe what the mirale of vit c did to me. After few days the sneezing, coughing, and sore troat disappeared wihtout taking any medicine. Before I remember when I have a sore troat it would end up with a bad cough.

NOTE: Please be aware that Im only sharing my story. High dosage of vit c could cause diarrheah etc.

Canker sores aren't viral so that should not be a problem IMO. Just avoid her eating spicy or sour foods as the usual remedy goes.

If you're still uncomfortable, you may wish to move your medical to a later date to easen up your worries.

BTW, I believe you are a doctor? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Just asking. :)

Yes sir, I am. With a devil-may-care attitude in med school and residency, currently with an immigrant visa-induced case of OCD  Am just wondering of what impact it may have on her medical. I guess if they ask to have her X-rayed, it would not be a problem.

an immigration medical is for one purpose and one purpose only... to determine if any visa ineligibilities exist... If you google "visa ineligibilitites" you will find a list of which there is a small section regarding the medical ineligibilities... READ this section... Then RELAX...

Don't worry about it. I can tell you my little story about my physical examination in SLEC. I had colds, caught, and fever during my medical examination. I didn't take antibiotic because it may have bad reaction with vaccines  . On my second day they gave my X-ray and they told me, "Everything is fine." Btw. medical people in SLEC kept telling me to drink a lot of fluids and rest when I get home.

Thank you for the advice. I took a look again at my li'l girl's throat and the previously noted redness has lightened already. ATB's must've helped. She still has a cough though, and she has been on mango juice and water. Plus her vitamins, of course. She will be on day 3 of antibiotics by tuesday evening. Will move our medicals to Thursday.

I can understand the paranoia over this medical exam that we all must go through...ganun din ako non.. hehe..ok lang yan...kaso sana tinuloy mo na yung exam kanina. Tapos ka na sana mamaya. Goodluck sa inyo.

Hi! She developed a fever last night and early this morning so I did not push thru. Can't giv vaccines if presently with fever. She has been fever-free the rest of the day and we will be checking in after lunch then proceed to SLEC. Took her to her pedia too, given additonal meds and an assurance that there won't be a problem at the medicals. will show the prescription at SLEC if needed.
