I notice that a lot of people here filed their own paperwork. After consulting two lawfirms and getting two different views of the pluses and minuses or working with them. I am about ready to try it myself. Are the I 129f and the I 134 the only documents I file initially? :innocent:Can someone give a quick rundown of their experience doing the paperwork themselves

hi angelus,

all the best to you, as this can be a very long and stressful journey. if you are thinking of filing a i129f, you will need to fill out that form and provide all supporting documents such as: your birth certificate, proof of meeting in person in last 2 years, proof of relationship, intent to marry for both you and your fiance, and g325 a for both you and your fiance. both of these forms are pretty straight forward and there are samples filled out here in the example forms. once this is processed, you will receive notice and it will be forwarded to the embassy of your fiance. then, notice will be sent to your fiance specifying which documents need to be sent directly to the embassy. at that time, you fill out the i 134, birth certificate of fiance, police records, continual supporting evidence of relationship, etc.

i know this whole process sounds way overwhelming, but unless you have some very unique circumstance (fiance has police record or something like that) then i do not see why you need a lawyer. i did all the paperwork myself, with the guidance of a friend and this website, and my fiance was issued his visa last monday, nov 17. the biggest advice i can give you is this: STAY ORGANIZED AND KEEP ANYTHING YOU CAN USE FOR EVIDENCE. you will never know what the embassy may ask for, so it's best to keep everything-- phone bills, chat logs, letters, emails, plane boarding passes, etc etc.

if you have any questions, feel free to pm me. i hope this helps you out. this website is a great resource and there are a lot of helpful people here.

best of luck on your journey. keep your chin up when it gets hard. we're all here for you.

allyson

Most folks have and just because you have a lawyer does not guarantee anything. I have seen many post about lawyers screwing it up, OR they never response and have excuses of WHY they can't do anything. It does not speed things up.

Follow the guides and advice folks give you here and you will do fine:)

I did ours by myself and I'm the beneficiary. If your case isn't complicated and read through the step by step guides here on VJ and ask any questions if you are not sure, then you should be able to complete it by yourself.

We did ours without a lawyer, and we are waiting on an interview date now. With carful reading of the guides and instructions it is possible (and probably just as fast) to do it on your own. Good luck!!

I did everything myself and had no problems other than using an older form for listing conditions. I suggest you read the guide and look at the example forms here on VJ. If you have problems or questions post them in one of the forums and you will get lots of help.

Good luck

We have done it all ourselves and we have just received our permanent green card! YAY! no more paperwork for 10 years!! my husband came into the usa on a k1 visa. it is absolutely doable by yourself- take great advantage of visajourney. my husband and i have tried a lot of different websites and used all the information from here- of course, don't forget about uscis.gov! ask any question at all, and you are sure to receive a helpful, useful answer from other experienced members. I cannot give this website enough credit- it is wonderful and so are the members!

Doing it yourself can be overwelming at first. It really helps to break it down into smaller sections. The guides are great for that. Just follow the lists point by point and read up on the points that you are unclear about. (the search here is really good for that) and if you are still not sure - ask. If you cant find it people here are very good at explaining or pointing you to the right discussion.

Good luck for your journey.

We have done the paperwork ourselves. The K1 guide on this site is pretty good for explaining everything you need - and answers to anything you don't quite understand from the guide is just a post away. Unless you think you have an especially difficult circumstances for your case - you should be ok filling out the forms.

We did it ourselves too. I think you will be happy knowing you are in control instead of hoping the lawyer cares as much about your case as you do. These tips are good too http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1tips

Here's the flowchart that helps get it straight in your head. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow At first people are throwing out so many acronyms and form numbers that you get a little confused. Just take it step by step and it will become clear to you soon. Always read the instructions for the forms and be sure you get the latest ones from the USCIS website. I also bookmarked any good links people gave her on VJ so I could find them when I needed them. Take time to explore all the info given above under the menu items GUIDES , VISA FAQ, EXAMPLE FORMS, and EMBASSY INFO.

Read through the guides here on VJ. Hang out in your region's forum (Asia: East & Pacific) to get specific advice about fiances from PI.

We did it without an attorney using the guides and advice from VJ'ers. There is a lot of good experience on this website.
