I am married to a Filipina and am about to file a I-130. I want to apply for her SS number before she arrives in the US. Does anyone know where, in the process, you would send the DS-230 form (APPLICATION FOR IMMIGRANT VISA AND ALIEN REGISTRATION)? Thanks!!! :star:

There is a box on the DS-230; however, it does not apply to K-3 filers (K-1 & CR-1 filers can get one without physically going to the SS Office). Once your wife arrives to the US, she must file for an EAD (work permit). Once she receives the EAD, she is eligible to apply for a social security card. Since you guys are already married, have you thought about the CR-1 visa? The process takes 9 months to a year, but it is better than the K-3. Plus, there is no paper work to file for two years. Check out the comparison chart-

Good luck!

Just wanted to make a quick correction for the benefit of others reading this post. K1 applicants DO NOT get their SSCard by checking the box on the DS-230. If you are a K1 you MUST go to the SS Administration and apply for the card.
