When I was a kid our family lived in Dallas in 1963. I was in the 2nd grade. My school let the kids off for the day to see the president, but I didn't go.

The incident I remember most about the the whole affair was when I was watching live TV with my dad when Lee Harvey Oswald was shot by Jack Ruby. It was on live TV and my dad just couldn't believe it. The assasin was assasinated on live TV. It was all too weird.

My uncle lived in Dallas too and I remember driving to Dealy Plaza after the assasination to take a look with my dad and uncle. The investigators had painted a red circle around the window of the book depository building that Oswald shot from.

Also, my mom's sister lived in the Dallas suburb of Richardson. I seem to recall that the Oswald family lived there or near there too and I have vague memories of driving past their house and my mom pointing it out to me.

One of my favorite books on the JFK assasination is Oswald's Tale: An American Mystery by Norman Mailer. I was surprised to learn that Oswald lived in what is now Belarus after he defected to the USSR prior to the assasination. My mom's parents immigrated from Belarus and I still have relatives that live in Minsk where Oswald lived while in the USSR.

Several years ago there was an article in our local Houston newspaper about Oswald's wife and daughter. The daughter is now an adult and seems pretty well adjusted in life. She never really knew her father since he died while she was still an infant. The wife and daughter still lived in Texas at the time the article was written.

Interesting story you have...The 60's was a very turbulent decade. JFK, MLK and RFK assassinations. I was young but I remember all of it. Don't care to go back and relive it....

The whole story surrounding Oswald is almost like a novel. The guy got around and was involved in a lot of fringe activities prior to the assasination. Reality is often stranger than fiction.

Besides the coincidences I mentioned previously, there are lots of others. Jackie Kennedy's sister married into the Radzwill royal family. The Radzwill ancestoral estate is located in what is now Belarus in the town of Nesvizh. Both of my mom's parents were born in Nesvizh and our ancestors were serfs and later free peasants on the Radwill estate in Nesvizh. Oswald lived in Minsk (now in Belarus) with his Russian wife after defecting to the USSR prior to the assasination. So Belarus has some peripheral ties to the story as well as the peripheral ties I mentioned in my life.

Not that any of this is really significant, but it shows how small the world can be. Cosmic coincidences.

I remember where I was. I was in Middle School and sent home early for reasons unknown. Nobody announced to the students what had happened.

I learned when I got home from my mother. This was without a doubt the first time we were glued to the TV for 12 hours plus for the next three days.......

I wasn't even a born yet and I still cry when I watch the assassination video brought up in class, or the coverage of the funeral with Jackie shrouded in a black veil and lil John saluting his dead father. It's heart breaking still even now.
