Ok I clicked a link to get an update from microsoft.com for IE 7 and I'm just wondering if anyone else has gotten this? Like it?

It's beta software. As in, you are now officially testing bug-ridden software for Microsoft. It's not officially released yet.

:crying::crying: Why did they call it an "update"????? :crying:

I had a look at their IE7 site - it's very misleading, you have to hunt down for any mention that it is actually a beta. Only when you get to the download page:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

...do they actually come right out and say "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2".

 how is this anything new? Please let me know when they're done beta testing XP. :P

veiledprincesslayla - you should try firefox instead of using ie. It's written by people that actually care about how their browser works instead of by people whose sole intention for being in business is, quite literally, to screw you. :bonk: ie is just barely starting to "embrace" the functionality that has been in other browsers for years and years. Firefox is also much more customizable and extendable (for example, i can use my mouse instead of the back button and reload and stuff). I can't see a single "feature" on ie's download page that I haven't already been using other browsers for quite some time. You will still need ie for a few pages that are poorly written by people with little understanding of the internet, but fortunately, these pages are getting to be fewer and fewer. My whole family (they're non-tech) uses firefox, so you don't have to be so much a geek to get it going. :)

Another browser that often seems to do things first is opera. They had tabs and mouse gestures and stuff a long time ago. If you're a bit of a PC novice, this one might not be for you, though. ttyl,

I was about to say, you say that as if everything RELEASED FOR SALE by MS isn't bug-ridden...but Phirefly pretty much beat me to it. :P I use Firefox as well but there are other browsers that are reputed to be *gasp* even better! ;)

yeah... i live in silicon valley and my work all day every day is internet. so i'll tell you what... it seems like a lot of the people i work with (oh, and me too) do web dev in firefox *first*, then go back and fix all the problems that ie causes. firebug is just plain awesome for debugging complex pages or pages that might be using XHR to update the page, also seems like more than a handful there (including me again) seem to avoid anything MS (even windows) at any cost, and are openly hostile to the garbage that comes out of there. even at home now, i'm using firefox on linux ;) i'm carefully watching for a distro that i can give to my family to chew on (they're all across the country, so housecalls are not possible). still too much red tape, though. :( politics. bleh. it's a bit amusing lately how this company with virtually unlimited resources sometimes isn't the first one to write a patch when a virus appears. how embarassing is that when one of your customers can maintain your software better than you can? somewhere i read that it took balmer two days to clean up one of his PCs 'cause it was so messed up!

dina, you're not talking about lynx, are you? no way you'll get an XSS attack through there, huh? ;) ttyl,

As a matter of routine, I use Firefox - though I must say it has some annoying quirks. But in general, I prefer it to IE.

I did test out the IE7 beta for a while, and I actually thought it looked OK in principle, if a bit rough. Then it f***ed up my MS Flight Simulator, and that is something I will not tolerate

I do think it said something about "beta" but I didn't know what that meant. It was on the "UDATE" page after all. For those of us who are not computer savy (sp?), if it's not an update, please microsoft, don't put it on the update page!!!! I mean that's just rude

I actually like it so far but I hope there's a way to get my old explorer back if this one starts acting funky.

I downloaded the IE 7 beta version, Seems to work OK, dont much care for the layout. I normally use Firefox, but some application load up better with IE.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I have the new IE on my computer at home. I hardly ever use it though. When I did download it I got lots of ####### along with it. I had little half dressed women popping up down in the corner of my screen. Javier thought it was pretty interesting but I didn't like it at all. I'm almost sure it came from IE because I hadn't had any problems up until the point I started downloading the IE7. Then they just popped up there and started doing their thing. It was quite shocking the first time one popped up there. I uninstalled the naked dancing ladies and have used it several times, but in general, just like firefox better.

The weirdest thing... after reading this today I was looking at another website and it had a link that said the site was best viewed with Firefox and a link to download it, so I did.. it's really cool... i like that I can change the way it looks :luv:

That really just made me sound simple :P
