haha, you aren't the only one! I'm talking with a friend who went through the same thing. And though my MIL isn't even around, she's been dumping tons of stress on me via email. Gee, can't wait to go to Montreal at the end of the month and stay with them. <_<

Huzzah indeed for leftovers!!! :star: (StP...did you see my note to feeandjosh in the UK forum?)

RE: Inlaws. I only have my father-in-law, who is such a sweetie. I love him, but as he is 88 he is very hard of hearing so talking to him on the phone is a bit of a challenge! With my unfamiliar American accent I am convinced that he understands very little of what I say! Still, I'm very much looking forward to seeing him in February. The conversations are a bit easier then!

And, yes StP, I will be going to London, if only for the day! My 13 year old son is going with us, so the obligatory trek to London must be made.

Why don't you put on a British accent for him over the phone then?

ah, you underestimate yourself I'm sure :P

I'm SO envious of your trip to London... I've been feeling so homesick for everything these past few days... just EVERYTHING; my friends, where I used to live, being able to walk so many places, public transport, weather, having beautiful things to take photos of, Europe on my doorstep... can't wait til we can move back :star:

and no, I didn't see your comment in the UK forum... where is it?

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

My comment in the UK forum was in regard to Fee's use of the word "huzzah". When I was in my Sophomore year of highschool one of our vocabulary words was huzzah, and our teacher, a gay man in an all-girl's school, made our vocab lessons so fun and colorful. And I just particularly remember the huzzah lesson, so each time I hear or read that word (and its been pretty rare until recent times!) I always think of Mr. Phillippart. :)

what a cool memory :)

I worked for ten years in the same all-boys school, teaching German... while I progressed after a few years to be head of languages, I'd started in the Junior School (ie teaching 9 and 10 year olds when, for the most part, they were starting with a second language for the first time), and I made sure to stay on there as much as I could, though my head of faculty role made it necessary for me to be on both campuses... I LOVED, after a few years, knowing two-thirds of every year group, and having had such a positive and fun introduction to them all when they were young, I remained on good terms with 99% of them for their entire school lives, regardless of what other reputations they acquired as they got older

the best thing ever was when they would tell me how much they'd loved German in the Junior School... it was so great to know their introduction to languages was so positive :star:

I miss that part of teaching... not much else though

and all reminiscing aside, 'huzzah' is just an excellent word, and criminally underused :D

as is 'egad' :D

oh no! did they even attempt to show some proof? or just decide to fire you with nothing to back them up?

I'm so sorry... you must feel terrible

but at least you know you're blameless, and they're arseholes... they probably just wanted an excuse, in the current economic climate; you said they were cutting back...

I'm so sorry :(

*enormous cyberhugs*

this will be the start of something better :)

I just KNOW it :)
