When i was building my house, neighbor kids decided it would be fun to break numerous windows. They also smashed the glass to the electric and gas meters, as well as taking some building materials.

We caught them one night, took them to the police dept, parents showed up ect, thought ok we'll be nice and not press charges, WRONG MOVE! The next night they came back and did more damage.

Thankfully after that they didnt do anymore stuff.

to quote Judge Judy - THAT'S OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

About six years ago someone stole our Blazer - it was so weird, I came out of work, had worked late and i'm just looking at the parking lot thinking i'm not seeing it and it must be there  (it was found a week later down the road parked at a Tim Hortons) - it was annoying that they had broken in to the steering column.

Prior to that on 2 different occasions someone broke in to my car and stole the CDs - oh and once when I was in Spokane someone went down the street one night and broke a window in all the cars parked on that road.

I teach seniors in high school. A few weeks ago, one of my students went into my purse (which was hidden in the back of a drawer of my desk) and stole my U2 IPod, while leaving credit cards, a rather expensive phone, and about $150 in cash.

I had a cell phone stolen once.

The one thing that would absolutely devastate me if it was stolen. Besides the kitties.

me too!

about 2 years ago our car was broken into and everything of value was stolen.... but at least they didn't take the car...

showoff!

well maybe the stuff inside was more valuable than the car?

i hope this is better.

yes to the first. burglary (auto) and id theft.

the auto bit was someone broke into the camaro trying to steal the radio - the twits didn't realize it would only fit that model of vehicle. damage was over 7k. (right at 10 years ago)

id theft - use of credit card by i suspect a former g/f, it was caught in time and no loss occurred to me or the credit card company. (this was about 5 years ago).

not really... the car was worth more then the stuff they got.... they got the satellite radio, the car radio (factory model), my hubby's prescription sunglasses and some CD's... the stuff inside is easier to pawn off then the car is.. :P

we think it was some of the neighborhood kids... we don't live in the greatest neighborhood...

Somebody stole my purse 7 years ago ($50 and credit card), somebody hit my car ( ca. $500) and didn't leave a note

A few month ago we got a call from the bank that somebody booked a flight in Latvia (ca. $400) with our credit card number.

We got a new card from our bank right away :hehe:

ROC - approved 08/2011

Several occasions:

  • our house (in Calgary) was burgled in 1975, about $500 worth of costume jewelry was stolen (but the thief never touched some REAL jewelry which was in the house)
  • a locker I was using in a Memphis health-club was broken-into while I was exercising and my wallet was stolen. Very little cash in it, but some credit cards (which I called, and got either cancelled or reissued) and driver's licence (now THAT was a hassle to get a replacement--I had to deal with an Alberta registry which had NO concept whatsoever of customer service)
  • someone tried charging $2,500 worth of furniture to my wife's cheque-card (cancelled, only mine in use currently; charge reversed)
  • another tried charging on my PayPal account to GaiaOnline (again, reversed--and hassle of resetting PayPal account)

Someone stole my free Roll-Up-the-Rim-to-Win coffee from my desk! :protest:

Someone else stole my credit card and had a grand old time. There are now some pretty pissed-off business owners and remorseful employees I am sure.

One time somebody broke into my car and left me a 10 pound note. I had to call the police and make a complaint. I was mostly unsure what to do with the money. You know.... if someone had reported it missing I would have liked to have given it back to them. I asked my neighbours if it was theirs but they said not. The police laughed and told me to keep it.

Someone grabbed my handbag walking in Korea one night. I happen to be talking on my phone at the time so they did not get that, and did not have much money in my wallet, but since I was busy sorting some stuff out I had my passpost in there. Ironically I had just gotten a new passport (filled up the previous one) and when I went to the embassy they just used the info from my old application to get me a new new one. (I was in shock for weeks that a goverment person actually made a effort to help me and make my life easier!!)

I had reported that snatching that night and even spend some time driving around with some policemen to see if I could spot the guy who had snatched my bag. But when I went back the next day to get a police report they would not issue me a printed one. Korea take great pride in being a very low crime country, and if they printed me a form it would go into the official records (official crime by Koreans on foreigner are less than 1% of the total crime in the country .. now I know why). In the end I had to stage a sit-in at the police office with about 10 foreigner friends and 20 Korean friends for them to give me the police report. (on a "only-in-Korea" note: All the Korean friends who came for the sit-in brought snacks and BEER! In what other country in the world can 30 people get drunk in a police station?) Eventually, after being at the police station for mor than 8 hours, they realized that we were not going to leave and the Chief of police of the City came and gave me a police report.

When I was a teenager in the 1970's I worked a a gas station back when there was no self serve. Back then we had to pump the gas, check the fluids, tire pressure, etc. I got robbed at gunpoint one night I was working alone. The guy stuck a gun in my face and emptied the cash register. He threatened to blow my f*cking head off, but obviously he didn't.

I guess that was more of a robbery than a property crime. However, I've had a few of those too. My apartment was burglarized back in the 1970's too. Also had batteries & stereos stolen from my cars. In the 1980's I had a 12 speed bicycle swiped from the porch of my apartment.

Since then I have improved my lot in life and no longer live in those kinds of neighborhoods. It is called upward mobility. Or as they say...when you lay with dogs you're bound to get fleas. The lesson...don't live around dogs.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
