Religion all of them are slanted usually towards the males, that is why I am changing to Rastafarian, at least they have some extra benefits, how cool is that. lol

I'm curious, what are the benefits of the Rastafarian belief? I was told about it a few years ago when I was in Jamaica. But it was all information from a guy (our taxi driver).

Ah, I see... I thought she meant benefits for women.

Actually, when I was in Jamaica, they asked us if we wanted some pot. But of course we said "no"...and then he said, "Okay, I have something better for you." Then he drives out to some dirt road and stops at a wooden shack and buys some kind of coconut/melon looking thing and cracks it open and says, "Natural viagra" and he and my husband ate it all and then strutted around like a bunch of peacocks LOOOOOOOOOOOL

Oh, absolutely! LOL

But it could also be a pain when someone who DOESN'T need anymore stimulants, starts eating that stuff!

Fortunately we were only there for 1 day during a cruise

You can have that if you go Hindu and worship Shiva too...

My .02 on the subject: it is oppressive if anyone is FORCED to do it or feels they have to do it to achieve a certain goal - otherwise if it is a woman's own choice than why is it a problem? What is oppressive to me is the constant insistence in 'OUR' culture on a uniform standard of beauty - now starving, that is dieting that is really oppressive!!!!! Also I find this uniform business 'dress code' very oppressive because there is the general idea that if you want to make real money you can't wear anything too 'artsy' or colorful let alone sexy, all business wear has this same drab uniform look and yet is impractical for any real work, also business clothes are uncomfortable and tend to look horrible and immodest on anyone with a fat stomach or thighs - everything is a tight skirt or pants. If I continue to wear salwar kameez I know that I probably can't get a job making more than $45K which is really nothing here in NYC.

Now that I find very oppressive.

Back to hijab topic... On the news, there is a local 17 yo woman missing this morning. In the 2 pictures shown she is wearing a hijab. I think how sad she is missing. Is it going to be harder to find her because of her hijab?

I like Bridget's comment -- its just a piece of material...

I am a non-hijab wearing Christian woman. I didn't watch the video --- having technical issues with VJ videos these days.

Have a peaceful Saturday!

If I got some smoke out of it I would wear Hijab, I could care less what people wear, but if you throw some weed in the mix I will wear just about anything, maybe not a bikini, but if it is something to cover up, count me in. lol Charles you worship much at the house of beer? I respect your church as long as you respect my church. We should just try to all get alone, but since the beginning of time, man has rage war and killed for what he believes in.

You know, I don't see the hijab as repressive - burqa totally so, hijab no.

I will say though that the Blessed Mother didn't dress that way for any particular reason except that it was the cultural norm, and as I pointed out in the thread the other day, it is still the norm in many MENA countries. So, would Mary feel comfortable taking off her veil, probably not...she'd probably feel naked without it, as I'm sure that most MENA women who do cover would feel.

I tend to agree about the burqa but I'll tell you on days where I"m wicked p!ssy it wouldn't be so bad throwing that on and just hiding from the world. My luck I'd trip down a flight of stairs in it though.

Just curious and not debating but how do you know that the only reason Mary dressed like that was due to cultural reasons? I mean Paul does state somewhere that women should cover their head so maybe there was a religious reason for it. I don't see anywhere written that this is why she wore it but I don't see anything that says it's not either so imho we just don't know.

i supose it could be oppresive if ur going to be killed since u didnt wear it. but dont we all have free will from God. so telling someone they have to do something that god gives them their choice on would be oppresive.

I wasn't slamming christians. If you watch the video it's bigtime propaganda for anti-Islam. My point was to find something anti-anything else to even the playing field. I used to be Catholic and experienced what went on here in Boston and so that's the first thing I thought of. Not a cop out since this video wasn't exactly a great start for discussing hijab being that it was pretty much a hateful one.

I would think she'd stick out like a sore thumb if she's wearing hijab.
