I do see that it could be very disrespectful, but I guess I have a different view of things. Defiling a gravestone is done with ill intent, while what Mormons are doing isn't.

defiling a headstone in no way affects one's soul. being hijacked after death into another religion does. i feel if they wanted to be baptized they'd have done so while living.

I agree they should have decided on their own, but their soul is only "hijacked" if you believe it is. I don't.

I can understand the perspective of the Jews on this. They are asking consideration only for the Holocaust victims, because of the circumstances of the Holocaust. It makes sense, though I don't believe the soul is in any harm. As Parivar said, you have to consent to baptism...there's no "baptism by proxy" if you believe already...I don't think souls can be hijacked.

On the other hand, the work the Mormons have done as far as making genealogical records available to the public is pretty amazing.

Was like some Youtube video I saw of two people role playing and pretending to cast magic missiles at each other and getting offended because the other made up their stats. I mean, honestly, why do the Mormons care, and why do the Jews care? It's just a friggen belief. I don't see this fake ####### hurting anyone.

It says someone acts as a proxy for the deceased and undergoes the immersion.

Well I can see where the Jews are coming from in regards to the Holocaust victims. Those people essentially died because of their religion. For another religion to suddenly 'convert' them because they believe they're doing the right thing is basically saying "our religion is right and yours isn't". Jews in WW2 were killed because of the belief that Judaism was wrong. This just seems to be the Mormon force reinforcing this idea.

Jews have been persecuted for thousands of years. Their annhilation during WWII had less to do with religion and more to do with Hitler's need to convince the Germans that Jews were responsible for the economic and social depression after WWI. Religion played a part but was not the prime reason.
