Well Im sure the pope would dis approve.. Marriage is basically for support and children, or in some cases here helping a temporary friend to immigrate... What a fog you must live in if you think the "primary" purpose of marriage is about family, the building block of any society.

Man and woman come together and have children.

Sure there are cases of exception, such as widows/ers getting married or divorcees who have already had kids but the "primary" function of marriage is for the creation of families.

Sure there are what has become know as "gay families" but these are almost always the result of

bringing kids from broken homes into some new living situation as Gays couples cannot procreate.

Although the "leftists" in the west have a different concept of what Marriage means, historically this has always been the understanding. And around the world in almost every culture it still means this (except for those few liberals in the west).

If you are not going to have kids and you don't find "shacking-up" immoral... why even get married? With the ease of divorce, one can't claim it's a "shared commitment".

Kids, no kids. Whatever. If Danno et al want to have a hard time realizing what gays are demanding, then perhaps what they can do is fight to redefine benefits and legal institutions so that the legal aspects that are mostly bestowed upon legally married couples is extended to gay unions as well.

Sorry man - its actually YOU who added nothing to the discussion. Perhaps you haven't realised this yet - but simply repeating the same old dodgy ####### over and over again doesn't make it any less invalid.

Having children is not a primary motivating reason why people get married - kids may be a product of the marriage, but short of the people who get married when they get pregnant it isn't the reason you go into the marriage in the first place.

That's not to say that people don't have certain expectations when they go into a marriage, but that isn't really the same thing.
