given you didn't know what calvary was, are you in a position to make that observation?

also - since when does how many languages one speaks become the standard for how educated someone is?

You are the one who wanted to "enlight" me spelling checker, who is the one who started the how big my peepee is? YOU, stop whining

And :ot2: since I'm fed up with this exchange of posts

I support gay marriage, period

i wasn't trying to enlight you. unless, of course, you are a christmas tree. yet as you decided to pull out the measuring stick on languages, why should i expect you to stop there?

it seems my question about how x number of languages being the gold standard for how educated someone will remain unanswered.

I think I can answer that. Learning more than one language is indeed an indicator of exposure to intercultural education. Each grammatical and linguistic family "has" its own way of "reading" the word and the world (for some really cool ####### on this, read Paulo Freire, "Pedagogy of the Oppressed"). This does not mean that monolinguals are subhumans, but it does give bilinguals and/or polyglots a broader view of things. It has also been researched that bilinguals have more than one "set of memories" and are better at, say, for instance, puzzles, identity shifting (very noticeable in immigrant children).

I don't think it is the gold standard; since some people are not good at learning languages like others are. It would be equal as sustaining that mathematical intelligence should be a standard to measure ALL students. And then there's learning styles, and teaching styles (both highly determined by cultural standards). But it is one way of 'measuring' if you will. :)

Forgive me for starting this thread and then bailing out... a bit of work came in.

I'm glad to see one or two posts dealt with the subject of why the ** rallies are so monolithic.

We had a small one in my city and.. well one might expect it to be a gaggle of pale freckled libs but

in NYC, to assemble a "whites only" group really is telling.

Well anyway... time for coffee.
