job probation and AOS interview

Timeline

I was just offered a full time job today. I will start my orientation and training next week. Now, I will be under probation, I wonder if it is acceptable to let the employer know that I have to miss a few hours for AOS interview.

I believe it is yes because it is inevitable and it is mandatory from the US government.

If I miss, I will loose GC.

What do you think?

06/19/2008 POE at LAX with K1 visa

06/28/2008 Married my husband

07/03/2008 Update my social security card

07/19/2008 AOS, EAD, AP mailed to Chicago lock box

07/21/2008 AOS, EAD, AP were received

07/28/2008 NOA1 for AOS, EAD, AP

08/04/2008 Biometric appointment letter arrived

08/15/2008 Biometric at Santa Ana office

10/21/2008 No update since biometric- contacted a local congressman, the ombudsman

10/22/2008 Was able to do service request

10/23/2008 EAD was approved

10/24/2008 AOS interview letter arrived

11/26/2008 Renew my State ID

12/10/2008 AOS interview approved right away

I think they'll excuse you this time seeing as it is THE GOVERNMENT and your job is practically based on the outcome of this interview...

Timeline

They should allow you time away to attend your interview. Whatever you do DO NOT miss you interview. If you fail to attend you will get a denial in the mail and they will start removal proceding against you, and remember that a denial will result if your EAD being cancelled. Risk your Job if you have to. Dont Risk your Greencard.

Yes, inform your employer of this upcoming prior commitment. He knows your immigration status already so this can also reassure him that you are staying legal as well. Let him also know that the interview is basically a formality because you are doing a family based green card and they need to see both you and your husband, that this is a normal and not unusual state of affairs. After all, if you miss the interview then he will no longer have an employee, so it is also in his best interest as well for you to attend. Offer to make up the hours you need to take off by coming in early or staying late; offer to make up those hours even before the interview, if possible, to show him your commitment to the job. Good luck with both the job and the interview.

I think most employers would understand the importance of the AOS interview.

But, even if they don't, you must attend your interview regardless.

This will also be my case on December 10, I might be included with december batch of new nurse orientation. But the thing is I will be working in a government hospital so I hope they would understand if I say its also the government that have me scheduled for AOS interview... I haven't told them yet...but do hope they would understand though. I will just show them my appointment letter..good luck to us
