AP in Nigeria

My husband and I have been on AP since Aug. 2008 and we are now off AP. We only found this information out after I phoned DOS to ask for an update on our case. I was told that he has an interview scheduled for Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. and they also told me that he was sent a package that should contain his a paper with his interview date on it and instructions on what to bring with him to the interview. This was sent on Oct. 30 via DHL and to date he has not received it. I even verified that they sent it to the correct address and they did. I scanned a copy of the paper we were given at the first interview with the case number on it and had him get in the inquiry line at the embassy to see if he could get a copy of the packet that was sent to him. They first asked if he had received a call from the embassy and the answer is no he hasn't. Then they told him that he should just come back on the date that I gave him because his name would be on a list and he would be able to get in. We both know this is not true. No one is allowed in the embassy unless they can prove with an interview letter or otherwise that they have business there.

What I want to ask is if there are any fellow Nigerians out there that have been through AP for a K3 visa that would know what the procedure is when you are called back. Like I said, he has never received a call from the embassy and the DHL delivery never made it to his house and we are down to the last two weeks before the interview and we don't know what else to do. I have written the embassy twice through email with no response. I did give the phone numbers to the embassy to my husband to see if he can get through that way, and tomorrow I am going to fax a letter explaining what I am right now to see if I can get a response that way. DOS says I can verify that they received the fax by calling them because they will be able to see on the computer whether it was or not.

We are desparate for help right now. Any help we can get would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Deb

The only thing I can think of is did he check with the DHL office if it is sitting there ?

Keep trying to request an email stating that he may go inside the embassy with it. That should at least get him inside, especially if there is a name reference.

Omoba, he is so exasperating and stubborn. He insists that DHL will need a tracking number to check for the package. Over here, they can also check by inputing the name of the recipient or sender and find it. He swears it doesn't work like that there. I don't know if it is he doesn't want to go or if that is actually the truth. He was making me so mad tonight I wanted to smack him, lol. I am going to try tomorrow what DOS suggested and that is to fax a letter explaining the situation and see if they will resend the package. Other than that, I don't know what else to do or even what the actual procedure is for being called back to the embassy. I was hoping some of you that have been on AP could help. I will keep trying. Maybe someone will come along that has already been through it already in Nigeria and give me some advice. Thanks anyway Omoba for trying.

Thanks. Anything is worth a try, although without a tracking number and being I am not the shipper or the receiver, I may not get anywhere with them. Thanks for your help.

Okay, I tried doing this, but unfortunately without a tracking number, they cannot locate this package. I gave them the embassy's address and zip code and also my husband's name, address, and zip code, and they could not locate a tracking number to match this information, so back to the drawing board.

Yes, it is it true that your husband will need the tracking number. I thought the same thing when my fiance insisted that I find the receipt for the package I sent him to give him the tracking number. Give up on looking for the "package they sent.' They will tell you anything..as well all can testify Nigeria DOES NOT send things out you have to go there to collect. Now if you wanted to call back and ask what it is he needs to bring and tell them he did not recieve the package that would be a step. Also, you could quiclky get in contact with your state representative and have them make inquires on your behalf. I know I have done this and they responded back to her before repsonding back to my own e-mail.

Hello Kelley,

I know we discussed this privately, but I remember my husband telling me that the interviewer on 7/7/08 said to keep the 221g letter to come back when they call him to come back. Does seem way too simple, but that was my impression.

He received his phone call from the embassy. She did not tell him to bring anything or that they sent him anything just to show up at the same time told your hubby to show .

Is the DOS positive that the Embassy sent your husband a package? Or is she assuming because that is what other embassies might do?

When my husband stated he was going to the embassy I really did not feel he needed to, but extra information didn't hurt.

Just relax we still have plenty of time to figure this out. Did you send an email to the embassy asking them about the appointment.

I did when my husband did not receive his packet 4 or when I heard that the NVC was finished with our case. The took just 24 hours to respond to general inquiries.

Keep the letter real simple to a couple of lines then the will read it. Just state that your husband has a 2nd interview but has not received a letter stating this information what should he do.

Thanks for your reply. I am one step ahead of you. I called my congressman yesterday and they will be writing the embassy on Monday to inquire. I am not sure about the "sending things out" from the embassy. I have called three different times to DOS and all three times I was told that they sent an interview letter out with instructions via DHL on Oct. 30. He has never received it. I sent him down to the inquiry line with a copy of the 221g paper he was given at the first interview with our case number on it so maybe he could pick up whatever they sent. They told him the paper was old and to just come back on the date that his wife told him and his name would be on a list and he could get in that way. I know that isn't true. You have to have something to show you have business at the embassy or they will not allow you to enter. He still has never received a call from the embassy either nor an email, nothing. I did write another email to the embassy to explain all this and hopefully I can get answer from them this time.

I did, in fact, send another email to the embassy yesterday. When I sent it to lagoscons2@state.gov, I found from their auto response that they are now changing emails and the new one for nonimmigrant visas is LagosNIV@state.gov, and that all correspondence should be sent to that address, so I sent an email to both places. Maybe that was why my others have not been answered, who knows. I sent a short, but sweet email because I know they don't want to see long drawn out questions. God, I hope they answer this time. Oh, also, DOS told me to write a letter explaining the situation and fax it to the embassy, and then call DOS back to verify the fax was received because DOS can see from there whether it was or not, so I will be doing that Sunday night before I go to bed so they will have it early in the morning on Monday.

Thanks so much for all your help and support Missy. I really appreciate it.

Hello One LOve,

After reading your timeline it seems like you had a smooth and successful first interview. Congratulations. Deb's and my problem is that our husband's are going for their second interview after being put on Administrative Processing for further regional verification of documentation and matrimony.

So we currently are not sure if a letter exist. Deb has made several or should I say numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact the embassy. My husband will attempt the embassy today. Hopefully he might be able to shed some light on this situation.

Hi Missy,

They never said that to my husband about the 221g paper. They just told him that he would be called back in due time.

He has never received a call from the embassy nor an email about coming back. The only way we knew he had an interview was me calling DOS and being told.

I have called DOS three different times, talking to three different people each time, and they all said that they see that a packet was sent out via DHL on Oct. 30, but to date still has never received it. For your husband to go to the inquiry line is probably going to be a waste of time if they treat him like they did my husband. He came with the 221g paper with the case number on it, and they said the paper was old. Come back on the day your wife told you.

Just state that your husband has a 2nd interview but has not received a letter stating this information what should he do.

i sent email to lagos embassy ask for a copy of letter t get him in for his interview tey went i copied it sent it to husbands email he copied nad got in with it
