I'm no expert, I guess people want to send more than needed because they rather send too much than not enough. I know I didn't want to risk USCIS sending back the petitions asking for more information/documents and having to possibly start over again. I sent the documents they asked for plus additional documents. Besides they might accept it and not ask you for those additional documents later. Just a thought. Good luck to you.

A complete I-130 petition application includes pertinent personal documents and 2 G-325a, one each for you and your petitioner, with passport-style photos for both you and your petitioner. Other proofs of your marital relationship are very much welcome. Of course, the more proofs you can offer, the better. After getting a NOtice of Approval, you will be prompted to name an agent, usually your petitioner. This is the DS-3032. The affidavit of support I-864 may be paid for and submitted during this time as well. As far as I know, I-864 is only done when your case reaches NVC and not during the petition-filing process.

"Stand alone" refers to I-130's filed as visa petitions. Not stand alone is where they are filed in conjuction with adjustment of status (I-485 etc.)

If you're petitioning for a visa, your petition stands alone. The petition includes all required and optional supporting documentation submitted in the same package.

When it doesn't stand alone, you write more than one check and submit other applications and their supporting documentation in the same package.

The previous answers you've received are bad guesses. They include some accurate information but do not explain the meaning of "stand alone".
