Dude, water isn't even that expensive! #######??

Here in California, we've been experiencing several seasons of drought. The governor has asked that people do what they can to conserve water use and even entertained the idea of fining those who are wasting water.

California sux.

My husband often forgets to flush the toilet.

I thought he was being gross but it turns out he was being environmentally conscious.

If it's yellow, it's mellow.

If it's brown, flush it down.

I was talking about brown- that's why its gross. The worst part- Cooper got into the toilet one day and pulled out the gobs of wet toilet paper. Gross.

That is beyond disgusting...how does a person "forget" to flush the toilet, especially when it's brown?

we have a water meter. pay by the gallon. we have a big house and lots of people in and out. water bill is $150-200/month. we're such wasters.

Wow!! We have a meter too and pay by amount used... our water bill is never more than 50 bucks per quarter, usually 35-40.

I think ours includes other fees like sewer or something. We do use A LOT of water. We have a pool, sprinkler system, lots of people, etc.

So just how many people live in your house?

Water is life and you really appreciate that when only carrying a canteen of it marching through the desert. A toilet consumes anywhere from one to six gallons of it each time you flush it, most are five at 8 pounds a gallon.

How would you like to carry 40 pounds of water just to deficate into it?

The water in my toilets is every good as bottled water, yes, it seems like a waste, but this the technology we were given and the codes we have to follow when building our homes. And yes, we are already paying a tax for it, water itself is cheap, bu the sewage bill is not and is charged by your city.

Did prefer living out in the country with my own sewer prcessing system, yes, the state checked it and could fine me if not working properly, but kept it in good shape, but getting nailed in the city now. We pay by the water usage with a meter on it and doesn't make any difference if I flush the toilet or water the lawn. Do have the option of installing a second sewer meter, have to pay for that requiring a jack hammer to gain access to the sewer main. Have to watch every faucet for drips, a toilet float came loose and hit the sidewall in the tank in the kid's bathroom, didn't know about that, but would never shut off letting water pour down the overflow, got hit with a 300 buck water sewer bill that month, had to pay it or have my water shut off.

Point is, we have very little control over our lives, just about anything in our stores comes in packaging I haved to recycle even though I do not agree with the packaging and I can only buy a vehicle that burns gas. I would get arrested if I installed an out house on my property.

ONE visit to Singapore will cure him of this false "environmental consciousness".

Low-volume (1-litre per flush) loos have been available since at least 1979 (I remember seeing them advertised in the Canadian Tyre catalogs then).

We have a meter and it's around $100/quarter... a little more in the summer since we water the garden.
