Regardless of what the publicity says, I've specced waterless urinals for buildings and, once they're installed, they smell .......... bad. :dead:

I've been in a number of public restrooms with the Falcon no-flush urinals and never experienced any unusually bad urine smell. Lets face it, public restrooms aren't known for their pleasant odor.

Indeed not, but office buildings have maintenance staff who are supposed to clean regularly. Not a place you would expect a malodorous aroma to propagate.

Now, composting toilets I can live with. And using "gray" water in the sanitary system is also a good solution. Wallgate units in place of wash basins, too. Just not the waterless urinals.

What line of work did you say you do?

I said nowt. But Construction is my field. And Green Building is here to stay, whether people like it or not. A good 50% of the construction projects we see now have a requirement to be LEED certified. Whether the state of the economy scales back this push for construction to go green, and it costs a lot of money to get to the top end of "green-ness", remains to be seen. My bet is that government projects will stick with it and drag private construction along with it, if only to reduce the running costs and power requirements. Invest at the front end if you can, to save more in the long run. :innocent:

Wow!! We have a meter too and pay by amount used... our water bill is never more than 50 bucks per quarter, usually 35-40.

My husband often forgets to flush the toilet.

I thought he was being gross but it turns out he was being environmentally conscious.

does this event usually coincide with having a shower?

i thought most people had water meters now. we do here in the uk, i thought for the states too (as you confirmed). surely if we pay for our metered water no one can tell us what to do with it? paying for it isn't enough?

I'll just ####### in a plasic garbage bag and throw it in the trash if these clowns decide to pull this stupidness. Better yet...I'll ####### in a paper bag, lite it on fire, and toss it on their front porch. A modern twist to an old prank. Tax that! ;)

Someone needs to develop a "grey water" recycler, that would send shower and tub water to the toilet.

If it's yellow, it's mellow.

If it's brown, flush it down.

I was talking about brown- that's why its gross. The worst part- Cooper got into the toilet one day and pulled out the gobs of wet toilet paper. Gross.

Dude, water isn't even that expensive! #######??

Here in California, we've been experiencing several seasons of drought. The governor has asked that people do what they can to conserve water use and even entertained the idea of fining those who are wasting water.

a couple of years ago london had a drought. they banned all use of hosepipes and sprinklers. have they done that there? this ban ended up with a lot of people buying water butts to collect rain water for their yards and many places sold out of them. :o

I think ours includes other fees like sewer or something. We do use A LOT of water. We have a pool, sprinkler system, lots of people, etc.
