do you have access to an employer sponsored plan? there are several options available if you want to try, but you might find the premiums fairly expensive without the benefit of a "group".

YMMV

My husband got me and my 2kids both medical and dental insurance just before we arrive here in the US...We've been using it during every medical visit.

I can't tell what your husband's status is by your post, but you can probably go to the local Social Security office, and apply for a SSN. The medical carrier will need an identifying number. The person (you?) who sponsored your husband is responsible for his medical care for the next ten years, not the US Government, or the tax payers. You (or his sponsor) could be billed for his medical care.

Things are tough now, and it does look not like things will get any better for the near future. Any coverage you can find will be better than nothing, especially if you already have concerns about your husband's health. Many county and city governments have low or no cost health clinics available, so check into that, for yourself, and your husband.
