Hi everyone,

I arrived USA on the 12 of Sep, and I will get married on the 22nd of Nov, my k-1 will be expired on the 12nd of Dec.

I only have a few weeks left after we marry, and with the visajourney's flowhart http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow, I will need to change the last name on SSN (I will change my lastname according to the information given in the marriage license).

Is it necessary? Can I apply for AOS prior to the change of my lastname at the SSA office in order to keep my legal immigrant status and to avoid delay? But I am not sure of how accurate it can be, they state it the website that the SSN number is not to be changed, but in my SSN card state that it expires according to my visa expiration. I wonder if this case applies.

Please tell me how risky it is since we have to wait for the marriage certificate to be done, and also change the lastname according to it with the SSA.

I appreciate your help.

Is it necessary? Absolutely not.Can I apply for AOS prior to the change of my lastname at the SSA office in order to keep my legal immigrant status and to avoid delay? Of course you can.But I am not sure of how accurate it can be, they state it the website that the SSN number is not to be changed, but in my SSN card state that it expires according to my visa expiration. Are you certain it says that? Or does it say "Not valid for work without DHS authorization" ? I wonder if this case applies.

Please tell me how risky it is since we have to wait for the marriage certificate to be done, and also change the lastname according to it with the SSA.I see no risk in waiting to change the name on your social security card.

I appreciate your help.

I agree the above replies. Until now I never change the name(maiden) on my SSN never be a problem nor cause delay on my AOS, I will just wait for my greencard to save trips going to SSA office anyway I will have my interview this coming Tuesday( Nov. 25).

I think the GC comes out to match the name in your passport, not your SSN. At least that's how mine came out.

greencard comes out in the name you apply for it in..... my wife's greencard is not in her passport name...

YMMV

In my case, I applied for it in my married name; and it came out with my maiden name.
