WASHINGTON – A federal judge on Thursday ordered the release of five Algerians held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the continued detention of a sixth in a major blow to the Bush administration's strategy to keep terror suspects locked up without charges.

In the first case of its kind, U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon said the government's evidence linking the five Algerians to al-Qaida was not credible as it came from a single, unidentified source. Therefore, he said, the five could not be held indefinitely as enemy combatants, and should be released immediately.

"To allow enemy combatancy to rest on so thin a reed would be inconsistent with this court's obligation," Leon told the crowded courtroom.

As a result, he said, "the court must and will grant their petitions and order their release."

As for the sixth Algerian, Belkacem Bensayah, Leon said there was enough reason to believe he was close to an al-Qaida operative and had sought to help others travel to Afghanistan to join the terrorists' fight against the United States and its allies.

As long as these pricks aren't released on US soil I say...good riddance.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Who's to say? They were detained outside of US Soil, so chances are they'll be repatriated as such. Other than that, it seems '#######' is the word of the day.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I agree. If they didn't hate us before, they certainly hate us now.

And...of course...they were detained on trumped up charges just for the fun of it? Really...knowing the incompetence of government in general, I wouldn't doubt it one way or the other. We'll never really know. Have you read my post at the masses of violent illegal alien criminals that have been released on the streets of the USA repeatedly over the years in illegal alien sancuary city Houston? Do you really want to reward these guys from Gitmo with a Green Card? Maybe you do, but I don't. Better to send them home. Nice post, but how about a post about the background of these guys for some balance. They eventually released Nazis POW's after WW2 too. And, of course, they were all innocent too. Right?

Spooky! How goes it? How's the family?

The family is fine. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get a shared printer to work on my home network. Maybe later on I'll just smash everything.

I've got two laptops at home and have not been able to get them to access each other. One is running Vista....the other XP.

How's the job going?
