In Arkansas I only had to do the vision test

We didnt get my oldest his G1 in the Ontatio before we moved it just cost too much. So now I have 2 kids who can get their learners permit here. They have a graduated liscence here too but it starts at 14 and it doesn't cost as much here. Also if your 18 they dont make you do the steps like in Ontario.

One thing I find weird is they go to the police station for the written test and road test you actually drive around with a cop. Well thats if I understood the hubby wright. Anyways My older too will be getting theres soon also.

Weird. Why is everyone so "down" on road tests? As far as I know, it's a one-time thing most places here, usually doesn't take very long (mine was about 10 minutes), and involves stopping, starting, turning, and parallel parking. Is it the parking that freaks people out?

Yep, most can't handle that parking thing. Take a look at how most park around you.....

oh ya forgot...if I had to do a road test i would not get my lisence. It really has nothing to do with the test it self I just don't like driving that much and would rather not bother with it. Ok thats a little lie I really hate driving so there no way I would do the test. Its crazzy here with the interstate running every where. Half the time I don't even know if i'm still in the same town. Little Rock and North Little Rock have swallowed a bunch of other cities. I get lost easy really easy.

For me, I just really despise taking practical tests. I get incredibly nervous and would do almost anything to avoid them. But I am a great driver and a good parker, I promise!!

I would have loved to do a Road Test instead of that written Bullshi*. Do people REALLY say to themselves.."I'm going to park now..oh look there is a fire hydrant..I'm going to park exactly 25ft from it"...Come on!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

In MI, I just had to show my Canadian driver's licence and take the vision test. (And show some other documentation.) I even got to keep my Canadian licence. I don't know if I was supposed to keep it or if the person forgot to keep it, but I didn't ask questions. I was just happy to get it back. :)

That's cause we trust our Canadian friends and know that they don't drive any worse than us from Michigan.

Hi guys! :) Want to seek advice from you...

Do I need SSN before I can get a driver's license?

We went to SSoffice and unfortunately they didn't issue me a SSN. I brought with me my marriage contract, birthcertificate and passport with visa with my MAIDEN NAME on it . I'm K3 by the way (but my name on my passport and visa is my MAIDEN NAME) .The lady there told me that I need to wait for my permanent resident visa to be approved with my new name or MARRIED NAME before they can issue me a SSN. Once the permanent resident visa is ok, they can issue SSN with my MARRIED NAME on it.

Lastly, can I work immediately once I have an EAD?

Advise pls

Thank you very very much.

I think most states require SSN for a DL.

I'm K3 too, and I understood from the SS website (http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.pdf - see bottom of page 3) that I need to receive EAD and then with that I can get a SSN. ...and then work (if I read all this correctly). It may be possible that someone would hire you with the EAD and show that you have applied for the SSN, that would let you start work and you can provide them with the SSN as soon as it is issued (?)

I'm not too sure about the name issue, but there are likely lots of others here that have experiences with the issue and can advise.

Got a valid Canadian driver's license? If so, there is no road test and no exam test. It is worth it to read the driver's book in Texas anyways though.

$24 for 6 or 7 years. Not bad.

You'll need to have your vehicles inspected, registered, and insured with Texas insurance first though. You get your driver's license last.
