The one parasite that really bothers me is the pinworm. Maybe it doesn't do a whole lot of harm to the host, but the idea that worms could travel outside your ####### to lay eggs is extremely disgusting.

eat lots of hot food, that kills them off.

That is disturbing, that just makes my skin crawl, damn I want a MRI just to make sure there is nothing hanging out where it should not be. OMG NASTY :dead:

A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.

How this worm grow inside her brain? Does she have rotten brain?

At the blood-brain barrier is the point where nutrients, and oxygen is transferred to the brain. However, once the worm reaches the brain its growth rate declines because not only nutrients flows across the blood-brain barrier but leucocytes (aka white blood cells). Worms are parasites that relies on the host for food, it will not kill off the host. Although, when it gets too big it will probably become a nuisance. The other organism that could possibly enter the brain is an Amoeba. These types of organisms will kill the host rapidly in response to the defense against the leucocytes. The Amoeba do not need the host to survive, therefore, it will kill off the host.

However, cases with the Amoeba is about less than 1000 cases. It occurs primarily in under-developed countries. So, in other words you should worry about the pig worms instead.

Dr Bohr...

There are no leukocytes in the brain. ;)

Loved that worm vid though.

Excellent point. The capsaicin in hot peppers works wonders.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Oh, these parasites could be killed if it's below 4 degrees F and over boiling point of water. Make sure you cook your food well. And, sushi...Well, I'll tell you about a case study of this Japanese.

He's a big fan of sushi, always trying to get the rawest fish at the market. Three years before he suffered from the accident in 2002 from a minor vehicle collision he had this severe migrane. He ignored it, and it eventually passed. After the accident he was brought to the Stanford University Medical Center with a crack open skull. The top portion of his scalp, and brain was eaten by a tumor. The medical team from San Mateo took pictures of his ordeal.

Here's the story, and very graphic picture. Be Ware.

didn't you even read the article ? that explanation of the pictures are erroneous. and the man in fact had a rare cancer. which was discovered after being taken to the trauma center because of a minor MV accident.

One of the picture is real, whereas the other one is fake.

It's erroneous, it's also mentioned there how to distinguish the fakes.

HAL9000, there's no leucocytes in the brain, but there are around the blood-brain barrier. The parasites needs to be located near there.

Actually, Dr Bohr, what you should have said was- YES there CAN be leukocytes in the brain as they- in very rare cases, have the ability to cross the BBB via active transport mechanisms.

Parasitic organisms, by nature, evolve mechanisms to be able to do so if that is their target. Since the BBB can repair itself, it is not unlikely that certain worm species can literally eat their way across.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

from what I read, both pictures are absolutely real. its the first two explanations of the pics that are in fact erroneous. Sushi had nothing at all to do with anything..... please read again.

Hmm....Yeah. I probably skimmed through it. Yeah, you're correct.

However, the parasites are real entities. Just a word of caution when handling things. I wouldn't worry as much if you're in the US. If you're traveling to an under-developed country, just be careful.
