The series were incredibly hit and miss. There are obviously many classic sketches, but a fair few fell flat. But the films were excellent.

I saw it when it came out originally. My dad, my brother and I were avid fans, but my mum hated it. Anyway, the original tv series is probably a little dated and a little parochial even - but at the time it was totally brilliant because it was totally inovative tv - particularly the adult cartoon sections mixed in with the off the wall oxbridge humour. I haven't really watched it since but I have retained a patiality for that brand of humour.

As for Fawlty Towers - brilliant and only 12 episodes!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

i like them and recently got the 'meaning of life ' added to my collection...

i especially like the sex ed teacher

The woman he taught the sex with was Patricia Quinn, who played Magenta in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. That's a random piece of trivia for ya! :P

I love MP. I saw Spamalot when I was in NY last month. Very good - especially the guy who played the french guard (I fart in your general direction!).

I just wish I'd been able to see it when Tim Curry was in it. *sigh*

What is a "Monty Python"? Never heard of it.

Better get a bucket.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

The movie, The Life of Brian , was pretty good. Those guys were well-educated for the most part in contrast to our American comedians and they came up some silly but accurate spoofs on history. There aren't that many comedies out there that can make you laugh and learn at the same time.

I love the conjugating Latin graffiti scene :P

not a big fan of Monty Python... Mr Bean is more my style :P

Mr Bean is cool, too

Please don't take Monty Python as totally indicitive if British humour. You're right, Chelle - it isn't funny.

I will give it one more go before I leave and see if it makes sense to me now.. Time will tell :)

Don't bother - it will always be gash. If you want to see quintessential British humour at it's very, very best, then do yourself a favour and indulge in a John Cleese project that truly IS hilarious: Fawlty Towers.
