If my fiance is asked whether she has done drugs before, how should she answer? She occasionally smokes marijuana (who hasn't ever done that?). Do they actually even test for illegal substances at the medical interview? (That would seem extreme).

If anyone knows, please help! We're VERY nervous about this! Would be such a stupid reason to be denied.

It's a very bad idea to lie to an immigration official in the visa process. Unfortunately, even occasional marijuana use is grounds for a three year ban on entry, which to be lifted would require abstaining from using illegal drugs. You may wish to consult an attorney prior to the interview.

A medical exam/interview is designed to determine if any visa ineligibilities exist. The issues of current/past drug use are addressed at this time.

YMMV

man, I'm feeling very sick to my stomach at the moment.. just texted her some information I found (and a bit irritated that she would smoke pot - just yesterday - without even considering the medical exam! - when she acts so impatient about finally being together). . . probably will have to hold off on the medical exam.. omg, this makes me so frustrated! & everything else has gone VERY smoothly for us!

I think you misunderstand. I don't think you're dealing with a drug test to detect marijuana use. You're dealing with the answer to a question about past or present drug use.

I wonder what happened. But , know this. Merely stating that you have tried a drug within three years prior to the interview will result in IMMEDIATE denial. Even if your fiance tests are negative for presence of an illegal substance he or she will be denied there is NO gray area in that. They will deny them and you will have to wait the time necessary. Do not mess with this. I have had to wait 18 more months because of this exact situation. We are going back next week. Wish us luck.

Good one. Too bad George Carlin is already dead.

Pushbreak:

1) Always tell the truth to an Immigration Official.

2) If you tell the truth, you'll not be able to immigrate.

:bonk:

The word clusterf*ck comes to mind.

What was the title of that James Bond movie? "Never say never?"

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

If telling the truth means admitting that you are inadmissible under the law, then you shouldn't be getting a visa. Seems correct, no?

Yikes - zombie thread.
