When my husband rec'd his SS# I was finally able to purchase a health insurance policy for him. I bought a short term policy (6 months) at ehealthinsuranc.com After about a week I got an email from them telling me he had been accepted and a few days later the policy arrived. I read the policy and discovered that he was not eligible for coverage under the "fine print" of the policy because he is not a US Citizen and has not resided in the USA for 6 months.

There was NOTHING on the application form asking about this. Nothing in the website about it either. I called E Health Insurance and they said they didn't know about this... I called the company and they confirmed that he was not eligible but couldn't explain why they didn't bother to ask this question in their application form if it really was a deal breaker!

I called E Health Ins. back and spoke to an agent and they told me that they don't have ANY policies that will cover him until he's been a resident for 6 months...

Has anyone found a policy that will cover new immigrants? I found a few strange looking policies for "Inbound Immigrants" that had coverages that were "per occurence" and had names I've NEVER heard of... which made me a bit suspicious of their practices..

I'm self-employed so I can't add him to a group policy.. (or to my individual one) and can't risk being uninsured during the time we wait for him to get his EAD and a job...

Thanks for any info... and any of you who bought a short term policy from Pacific Source if you actually end up using it your coverage could be denied... Not sure what Ins. Co. Claims Examiner is going to ask for the patient's I-94 but it's possible... especially if they think they might actually have to pay out a big claim... On short term policies all underwriting practices take place only AFTER a claim is rec'd.

I asked Pacific Source why they have this policy and was told it's because Immigrants haven't had the "benefit" of Western Medicine so they are just TOO big a risk... Well guess what... 6 months from now he won't have had them either, HOPEFULLY.. so I don't see the point of this policy.

Will Tom Daschle PLEASE start work tomorrow on National Health Care???? My Ex Immigrated to Canada and was fully covered by their plan within 30 days of arrival... Maybe I should have gone with him. ;)
