There must be a network issue or some fraud going on there right now. I just tried (without logging on) to send money from CA to Brazil for pricing. The button does not work. Give it a day or two and check again.

Good point Charles. I did not know that Western Union stations were located in Banks (in Brazil). Usually, in other countries they are in other places, like convenience stores and such.

BRAZIL’S LONGEST EVER banking strike came to an end last month, four weeks after it commenced, as workers heeded their union bosses’ call to return to their jobs. Nearly half of the country’s 400,000 bank employees had walked off the job on September 15, when Brazil’s banks refused to give them a 25% salary increase.

link

unless this still impacts it due to all banking activity ceasing for a month and they are having to play catchup.

that's weird. I don't understand why Brazil, it's not like there's a lot of immigrants sending money from the States to their family in brazil, like glitter lovers for example do.

maybe if they had some love for their family, they would send some cash back home to Brazil. and they could put it in a nice envelope with lots of glitter on it too !!

The question is, why is California excluded from sending wire transfers to Brazil...what's the connection between the two countries that seems to be a mystery to the banking services that no one seems to have an answer to, or they won't discuss in detail? Are there any other states in the U.S. that may be experiencing the same problem?...I'd like to know. The Moneygram agent did not see problems with other states when we were on-line yesterday, although there are several known high fraud countries that are listed and have been for several years such as Nigeria.

i can't answer that about other states - but it would be interesting to know if it's usa wide or just confined to cali. if usa wide, then my thoughts lean towards an issue with the banks, but if in cali, perhaps some new legislation no one knows about?

Hmmm, well when I discovered this yesterday, I was told it was that there was a new homeland security issue that was excluding California...just curious if this has spread. Vegas wasn't bad, just that after being up and on line with Cinara at 0430 am (5 hrs. difference in time), and then meeting with our attorney to complete our files and rushing to UPS to send it to her in Brazil by 5:30pm, I wasn't up for it. But we came to far to give up over the inability to send money to another country, simply because California is having issues with them.

i wonder if this is part of some crackdown to make things more difficult for illegals or something. i'm curious if it applies only to brazil.

I have not heard about this here in Florida and I'm the only American in my home. Maybe it is just California. Strange. Usually if there's any problem with something, the whole Brazilian community in my city shows up at my door for assistance. My husband is in Brazil right now and he took his Bank of America bank card with him and so far this has worked out well. He is able to use it for larger purchases (bus tickets) and get cash from the ATM.

maybe their families work and they were always able to support themselves, they don't need their children that never helped them financially to start supporting them now.

Love doesn't need to be proved with cash. At least I don't have to buy my family's love.

Maybe next time you can drive to Mexico and use a service in Tijuana to send to Brazil quicker than driving all the way to Vegas.

Just a thought.

Well, I sent my spouce a bank card and credit card in the mail...this was about a month ago. He still doesn't have it and it is making me paranoid. Anyways, this morning, I went online to "XOOM". I have never wired money before or anything so I really don't know what I'm doing. The webiste looked legit. Anyways, it was pretty simple and easy. I have an account with Wachovia in Georgia and transfered money to my spouse in Brasil. I transfered about US$500. Don't know if this infor interests you.

Yeah, that didn't cross my mind at the time. I was already over an hour away, north of Murrieta, so I took the jaunt to Vegas. Hopefully i won't have to do this again anytime soon
