Just had interview! Grrrr!!!

She had her interview.... only asked her a couple of questions... how did we meet, Where, how many times have I come to visit her? (7 times) They told her everything look good but they need proof that she is not married??? How do you prove a negative????? :mad:

We had a great application... tons of proof...photos galore... I have a great job and plenty of money and was told by attorney that our app was one of the best he's see and that it would have been a slam dunk.. Not in this world!

They said they were surprised that she is 30 and not married yet. She also stated that the guy interviewing her was rude.

Now she has to travel back to her home village in Ubon Ratchathanee "on the other side of Thailand" about 8 to 10 hours away and ask her city hall to provide a letter of guarantee that she has not been married before. When she gets that she can come back on Monday or Wednesday and hopefully they will give her the visa and not ask her to come back in a couple of weeks after administrative review.

They even told her everything looked good.... SO FRUSTRATING!!!

I was told by my attorney in Bangkok that they only normally ask for proof of single when a child is involved but she doesn't have children.

Good luck everybody and don't take anything for grated when it comes to dealing with the US Embassy in Bangkok... Even when EXTREMELY diligent and providing overwhelming amounts of proof and supportability.... they can and will throw you a curve ball!

I think they had too many Visa to process that day and they decided to push her back a week to lighten their workload. However they are not taking into consideration the heartache and the hoops the applicants are having to jump through to make their dreams happen. All after waiting 6 months to be with your loved one.

I'm done ranting.. Hope this has some use for someone.

I don't know ANYONE that went to the interview without it.

My fiancee had to have her parents come and sign this form attesting to the fact that she has never been married. I'm not sure what the procedure was for doing it, but she knew what to do.

And maybe they weren't being rude. You fiancee is very pretty; I'm surprised she's not already married myself... haha... Well, good luck!!

A successful visa process requires a lot more than meeting the requirments but failing to submit a required document is a perfect formula for failure. Government certification of single status is required in some countries and Thailand is one of them. Your fiance saw the P3 and failed to comply.

It's in the checklist for "K" visas, but not CR-1/IR-1. This was news to me also. I'm not filing "K" but I'm tempted to have my wife complete one just in case. Seems like they can be unpredictable.

By definition a CR1 visa applicant is "married" so cannot obtain a certificate from the government certifying they are single. Of course this goes for K3 as well.

My wife was interviewed & granted a K 3 visa last year & we were not asked for any form saying she wasnt married before even though she has a child. They did ask if she had been married & she answered no.

It could be that the rules have changed from that time to this or the fact that she had her new passport with her married name. Also I was present at the interview.

Agreed! I have meet her parents several times and I can read a little thai.. Her passport nor her Id card have any indication that she was married. In Thailand if you have been married before your ID card will forever show Mrs. even if you are no longer married. If anybody has doubts or concerns about their future wife... here is a quick check:

Like pushbrk said, when you apply for a K3 visa you are ALREADY married and therefore cannot document that you are NOT already married. The OP applied for a K1 fiancee visa and needs to supply slightly different documentation.

You assume my future wife saw the required form and failed to comply. We never received packet 3 and my lawyer submitted it for her. She has some difficulty reading english hence the reason I hired a lawyer to help her with her side of the paperwork.

I'm going to make an assumption as well and based on the nature and tone of your response.... that you must be a lawyer... ;P

I read in the Bangkok Post or The Nation newspaper this past summer, while I was in Bangkok, that the government is now allowing previously married ladies the opportunity to remove the Mrs. The exact conditions and process, I don't remember.

You assume my future wife saw the required form and failed to comply. We never received packet 3 and my lawyer submitted it for her. She has some difficulty reading english hence the reason I hired a lawyer to help her with her side of the paperwork.

She had to sign the documents at some point, and the new Packet 3 is written in Thai. Of course the lawyer may not have had her read it before she signed it.... another reason to fire him.

She purchased a plane ticket and traveled to Ubon shortly after her interview yesterday. She Just got back from wherever she need to go (city hall??) and acquired the letter of guarantee that she is single and never been married.

I am flying to visit her on Friday and will be with her on Monday when she turns it in.. I doubt they will let me in but I will try. Hopefully she will be on the plane with me on the 30th.
