Re: healthcare

It really isn't as free as they make it out to be on so many levels. I know that only certain services are free and all sorts of stipulations. A's grandma needed to go to the doc for an arthritis checkup and get some meds. She had to pay to see the doc cause they were a "specialist" and then pay for the labwork and the meds...nothing was free. Not sure if she was taken for a ride or not but she told us that "her doctor doesn't do free".

thats the thing she may have needed to go to the CLINIC..and wait, wait ,wait..and more wait

Yep thats what we determined as well. But she only wanted to go to her doc and who can blame her? I had to do the clinic thing a couple times in JA and it isn't fun plus that was when we still had to pay. I can't imagine how crowded it would be now. I can still see it now. Me there coughing out my lungs cause I got bronchitis sitting next to the girl who kept vomiting everywhere for 4+ hours...hell on earth :dead:

With you there, Yardie. They left me out in the waiting room for hours bleeding out of my ear, my SIL's nose bleeding all over the place cause it was broken, and Andre moaning in pain. The thing about the cost was it was something like $40US for all 3 of us to be seen. Cannot beat that with a stick!

A reader of the Jamaica Cleaner is proposing that everyone looking to be married in Jamaica undergo DNA testing first.

The Editor, Sir:

Based on the 'jacket' situation in Jamaica, DNA testing may become a way of life. If we do not know who our fathers are we may end up marrying our cousins, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and even our fathers.

Under these circumstances I would not recommend anyone get married without both partners doing DNA tests to see if they are blood-related. This is one situation where the women can't blame the men for. Ladies if you have only one sex partner every nine months then you won't have to worry about who the daddy is.

I am, etc.,

DAN VASSE

According to Out-of-Wedlock Births by Mark Abrahamson,

When people suspect that a Jamaican child's social and biological fathers are not the same, but the child is publicly presented as the offspring of the social father, the child is called a "jacket" [emphasis added] in local gossip. The imagery implied is that a jacket child is something a husband "wears" to protect his honor.

MORNING EVERYONE JUST GOT FROM JAMAICA LAST NITE :crying::crying:

How was ur trip Nelly? Awhh...Jamaica Jamaica...

Wow....crazy article. I can't see the country being able to afford the testing and the forcing of the testing. They have bigger problems to worry about funding at this point. Interesting concept though!

Hey, Nelly. How was the trip?

why would the country afford the test instead of the parents involved? i would think the country would be making money from those test considering that it would be done at a cost to the parent.

jakeswife

Enforcement. And with free medical care, some of it would have to fall to the country.

it would be irresponsible for the government to consider DNA testing as a '' free medical care claim''

If they followed what this lady said and required it, how could they not?

the government can and should not make decisions based on 1 persons opinion about how to deal with issues that will directly affect the government/law. so saying ""how could they not"" is like saying they should be obligated because someone voices a conern

I think JG is saying if the governments REQUIRES a DNA testing be done...how can they not find the medical means to support it?

I think what would happen if the testing was nto for free people would just stop getting married and end up all mixed up anyway

Exactly Shrewdie.

First of all, I think required DNA testing, in this case, is ridiculous. Too Big Brotherly for me. But, yes, if they require it, they would definately have to come up with money to enforce it and most likely subsidize it.

Perhaps it was just read in someone else's voice and not mine and the meaning wasn't understood.

the government enforces testing for people all the time. this does not make it the resposibility of the government to pay for it. i would think that if the parents cannot afford the test well the case would be postponed until the finances are available for the test to be done before the case is taken back to court.if a dna test is necessary to conduct a case well the government should not have to pay for it because an enforcement is given for it to be done.

There are certain things that I would not trust to a clinic or the free care - DJ is paying for his eye specialist - The clinic and the hospital told him he wouldn't see out of his eye again - The dr. has told him that he should have had a patch, and is hopeful for full recovery. In my opinion, for certain conditions, I would rather spend the money to get the best possible treatment I could - Especially something like DJ's eye = The outcome of that and his vision will affect the rest of his life.
