Jake,

I must agree how could the country try to pass this as "their" responsibility just b/c they feel like being nice? nope don't think so. I'm sure there is something more to this..meaning some kind of protocol to for finding the fathers. Enforcement could be the possible father get a court order to take the DNA test...absolutely silly to think the government can offer this to the entire country for free

mi deh yah Yaads..can I rub ur genie bokkle and u grant mi 3 wishes..only 3 mi no greedy

how "free" is this health care in JA..how can JA afford totally free and the US can't even come close to some kind of healthcare control..instead of letting these pharmacuetical/insurance companies run the industry

it's not has glamorous as it sounds. with free medical care comes higher taxes on specific services and lack of proper care and accountability from the health care sector.

of course, cause how could this be "free" and not cost anyone anything. They don't realize they are paying for it somehow. I think this is to try and get ppl to come out and get medical attention w/o the burden of money upfront.

MORNING EVERYONE JUST GOT FROM JAMAICA LAST NITE :crying::crying:

Re: healthcare

It really isn't as free as they make it out to be on so many levels. I know that only certain services are free and all sorts of stipulations. A's grandma needed to go to the doc for an arthritis checkup and get some meds. She had to pay to see the doc cause they were a "specialist" and then pay for the labwork and the meds...nothing was free. Not sure if she was taken for a ride or not but she told us that "her doctor doesn't do free".

I agree. when I was there we took a visit for the clinic in spaldings and it was overcrowded and you could see the problems they were having..but....still with that being said and with seeing those SAME problems in the U.S. ...they still offer more than we do

A reader of the Jamaica Cleaner is proposing that everyone looking to be married in Jamaica undergo DNA testing first.

The Editor, Sir:

Based on the 'jacket' situation in Jamaica, DNA testing may become a way of life. If we do not know who our fathers are we may end up marrying our cousins, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and even our fathers.

Under these circumstances I would not recommend anyone get married without both partners doing DNA tests to see if they are blood-related. This is one situation where the women can't blame the men for. Ladies if you have only one sex partner every nine months then you won't have to worry about who the daddy is.

I am, etc.,

DAN VASSE

According to Out-of-Wedlock Births by Mark Abrahamson,

When people suspect that a Jamaican child's social and biological fathers are not the same, but the child is publicly presented as the offspring of the social father, the child is called a "jacket" [emphasis added] in local gossip. The imagery implied is that a jacket child is something a husband "wears" to protect his honor.

MORNING EVERYONE JUST GOT FROM JAMAICA LAST NITE :crying::crying:

How was ur trip Nelly? Awhh...Jamaica Jamaica...

Wow....crazy article. I can't see the country being able to afford the testing and the forcing of the testing. They have bigger problems to worry about funding at this point. Interesting concept though!

Hey, Nelly. How was the trip?

why would the country afford the test instead of the parents involved? i would think the country would be making money from those test considering that it would be done at a cost to the parent.

jakeswife

Enforcement. And with free medical care, some of it would have to fall to the country.

it would be irresponsible for the government to consider DNA testing as a '' free medical care claim''

If they followed what this lady said and required it, how could they not?

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Yep thats what we determined as well. But she only wanted to go to her doc and who can blame her? I had to do the clinic thing a couple times in JA and it isn't fun plus that was when we still had to pay. I can't imagine how crowded it would be now. I can still see it now. Me there coughing out my lungs cause I got bronchitis sitting next to the girl who kept vomiting everywhere for 4+ hours...hell on earth :dead:
