Interesting interview experience

My wife had her interview today. Final determination to happen tomorrow. The Embassy interviewer told my wife that her mind is still not made up as of today. She said to expect a phone call tomorrow.

As for the interview itself, the questions were pretty standard. Nothing out of the ordinary. However, she did tell my wife that these American men will marry a foreign woman, then once she is in the US, they will abuse her. She went as far as to have a secretary print out some sort of violence against women act to give to my wife. The interviewer also told my wife that she wanted to be sure that if my wife left me, that she would be able to stay in the USA.

All in all very odd in that regard. It sounds like my spouse will get her visa approved tomorrow, but the interviewer seemed to want to keep doubt in her mind by saying that the outcome was not clear yet. Comments???

wow the consulates are so creative these days. It sounds like they want to be sure every base is covered and that everyone knows they have rites. In case the "worse" thing happens. It does seem a bit brutal tho. And sometimes they even seem a bit prejudiced which does not seem like it should be allowed. Like they plant "ideas"..but maybe they just want to scare people so they weed trough those who are not serious about immigration?

Thanks for the responses everyone. Hopefully some good news is to come tomorrow. They also had my wife ask me to fax a document they claim was not in the file. She took it to the Embassy after receipt, and it sounds like a decision will be made tomorrow. They kept her passport and did not return any documents yet. All good signs to me.

Am thankful to be at this point with all the waiting going on at the CSC and VSC.

martiniolive,

It is. I believe in the Philippines they have to attend a domestic violence seminar of some sort.

yes, we do. It is required by the Philippine govt. No one leaves without it. You must pay for this seminar, then travel across the city to get the stamp in you're visa.

my husband said that during the seminar, they were shown this clip of a girl arriving in the US, only to be used by her fiance or husband: they took pics of her, posted it on the internet and all kinds of disgustingness.. is this sort of "education" really necessary??

A quick update. The Embassy closed for business today, with no decision made. My wife called the CO, but she was busy. The only paper she was issued was a slip of paper to use to re-enter as they had kept her passport. She did bring the requested document back to the Embassy, and was told by the CO that she would be called today with a decision.

Its going to be an anxious weekend as they are closed until Monday regarding immigration issues.

I think it is very necessary.

While the majority of cases are completely legitimate, there are some sick people out there and someone who leaves everything they know behind and have zero in terms of support systems to come to the US may be too afraid to leave if they think they'll be sent home or that nobody will believe them or that they have no rights because they are not USCs.

Education is a good thing. And, education is necessary.

If this saves one person, it is worth it.

i think the govt. in the Phillipines is doing a great job making this kind of a seminar mandatory. I am completely for it. Like someone else said, even if this saves one life, its completely worth it. I think more countries should adopt this format.
