Hi everyone.

My fiance just scheduled his interview for a week from Friday, (Nov 28)!!! We have all our documents in order and are good to go. HOWEVER... We're worried about the Affidavit of Support, I-134. On the list of documents needed in Packet 3, it simply stated I-134. On I-134, it doesn't say a W-2 is necessary as one of the supporting documents. Since I live down here in El Salvador with my fiance, my mom will be our co-sponsor. She only works part time and won't have sufficient income, however, she has several hundred thousand in the bank. For her financial info we have her tax reports, a letter from the bank, a letter from her employer, and the signed and notarized I-134. But no W-2s.

I am the primary sponsor and my fiance will bring to the interview my financial info as well: Tax reports, a letter from my previous employer stating that I am eligible for re-hire and how much I was making before I moved down here, a contract sent to me (via email) by my previous employer to begin working with them again on Dec 29th. But, again, no W-2s.

When my fiance called to make the appointment, the person he spoke with said he MUST bring the W-2s, even though it does not say that on packet 3 or 4. The Salvadoran embassy uses an outsourced call center in Mexico to answer all visa questions so the man wasn't someone who worked at the actual embassy, and the info line is notorious here for giving misinformation. So, I just emailed the embassy asking them if we must have the W-2s and if so, if they need to be originals.

We coud have my mom send the originals, but it would cost around $80 to send them, and mine are somewhere in a mess of papers at my dad's house, so they would be really difficult to get.

Any opionons? Do we need them? And if so, originals?

Thanks, y'all.

If you brig your own copy of your tax return, you should include the w-2's.

We used IRS federal tax transcripts. The phone number is 1-800-829-1040. They can be faxed to any location and it was less paper work to be sent and to brought to the interview.

The term "tax report" is confusing. You should be providing complete "tax returns" which would include all supporting documentation and schedules or "tax transcripts" which would stand alone. Please clarify.

Sorry, I know, I couldn't think of the right word, I guess what we have would be the "tax transcript," because it is what we ordered from the IRS that they sent directly to us. It looks like a print out of all my tax info, by year.

So, are you saying if we bring the "tax return" which is the form you fill out to file your taxes and send into the IRS, you need all the supporting documents, including the W-2s. But if you porvide the "tax transcript," the printout they send you from the IRS after your taxes are filed (per your request via a phone call), then you DON'T need the W-2s. Is that right?

Thank you for your help Pushbrk and ESL Teacher!!!

Yes, tax transcripts stand alone. I guess they figure if you're willing to pay tax on the income, they're willing to stipulate you received it.
