I and my fiance just got approved for NOA-2 and I'm preparing documents to send to her.

I'm wondering if I really need to send the original proofs of documents such as Naturalization Paper to my fiance. Does the letter from embassy indicate to provide original proofs of documents? Did those of you who eventually got the K-1 visa had to do that too? I'm a little worried b/c things could get lost in the mail and those documents are quite important and take a long time to replace.

Thanks in advance!

It's just a best practice to have originals available for inspection, if needed. I wouldn't send the original Naturalization Certificate. Instead, I'd take it to a Notary and have them copy it and attest to having inspected the original. (Not all States allow their Notaries to do this.) Otherwise, just send a photocopy if you can't be there in person.

I sent my hubby originals for his K1 interview. But I'm a USC by birth so I can get another birth certificate pretty easily. I understand you'd be concerned about your naturalization papers since they are harder to replace.

USCIS is supposed to accept copies of original documents, but reserve the right to request the original. I sent originals to my hubby so there would be nothing else for his interviewer to ask him to submit. If you mail decide to mail the original, make sure you keep a copy for yourself, send them DHL or some other more reliable/speedy service like FedEx.
