I thought birth certificates were public info, too, so I checked our state's rules, just for fun... in VA, you can have a birth certificate of someone who is not an immediate family member, but you have to wait 100 years for it! LOL :

Birth records are public information 100 years after the date of the event; death, marriage, and divorce records, 50 years after the event. Vital Records are available to immediate family members only- mother, father, husband, wife, child, brother, sister and grandparents with valid ID. Aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, etc. cannot obtain a Vital Record.

If you're curious, you can check your own state's rules by googling your state name and "vital statistics".

My USC wife (born in CA) has a "certification of live birth" as her birth certificate (I suspect a fair few people do). What exactly is Obama supposed to produce?

Perhaps the confusion is over exactly what "official" documents are prepared by the states and differing standards between those states.

If I remember correctly, we had to apply to CA State for an "official" certificate of marriage as the one we were given was not recognised in that state.

It does seem strange that people could seriously believe that a major political party would risk jeopardising its own interests by selecting and promoting a presidential candidate who wasn't properly vetted according to basic rules of eligibility.

I suppose stranger things have happened - but it really does sound like grasping at straws. And it isn't lost of me that many of these sorts of criticisms aimed at Obama seem to have a very specific, limited appeal. All of this stuff seems to be about accentuating this idea of Obama's "otherness" and how he isn't "one of us".

It's all about Politics ... and using the "rules" to-the-dot, to further their objective.

It's very clear this isn't about getting to the truth. It's merely about digging about someone until you find something to complain about. Of course, the people doing this are looking totally in the wrong areas, as there ARE legitimate things to complain about.

Hell, the fact that a good number of conspiracy theorists complained that Obama needed to re-affirm his own citizenship at 18 and a half were the funniest of all. Not very good at research, nor math.

Quite simply - this birth certificate ####### comes on the back of the allegations of Obama's associations with terrorism, with his being a muslim, silly allegations over lapel pins and "fist jabs" and with his "Marxist Socialism".

All of these things serve a very singular purpose.
