Loving America!

It's been ages since I have last been here. Wow. I'll be getting ready to lift conditions in the spring so I'll be around a lot more. Everything is going great. My husband and I are very happy and I have come to consider America my home now. I really love California and actually don't miss Canada as much as I thought I would! My in-laws are amazing and I have formed solid relationships with them that will last a life time. My husband and I couldn't be more tight and stress free now that we are finally together. I've been doing lots of experiences here in California (ie Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, different day trips) and it has really opened my eyes to what a great country this is. I've yet to focus on work as I am not sure if I will be doing that yet. I'm hoping to find something in animal care when I am ready to do so. I'm really happy and I must say that all the stress of the K-1 process was totally worth it! I have not been back to Canada since I arrived here nor have I traveled outside of the country. I am loving this place too much and feel no need to right now. It will be 2 years since I entered the US on December 2nd so I'm looking forward to celebrating that. Oh, and my second wedding anniversary is coming up January 26th! Time flies when you are loving life :) Just wanted to drop a line and I hope everyone else who has made their home here from other countries is as happy as I am! Hope you are all doing well. I will update my time line as changes as I file to lift conditions in April.

Sarah

Thanks for posting this, Sarah. It's a breath of fresh air to read about your positive experiences amidst difficulties most couples seem to be experiencing in adjusting to living in a different country as well as to each other. I'm really glad you have found your piece of paradise.

Hope the life keeps treating you well. Be happy. :)

I think it has a lot to do on how much effort you put into it. My husband had a difficult time at first and I bluntly told him that it was up to him to either adjust or stay in homesick mode. After that he found a job he likes, his driver's license, started going to school, etc. He's now in Colombia for 4 weeks to visit friends and family and last Saturday he told me he felt weird about it. He said "I feel guilty because I know I'm back home but I don't feel at home any more and I feel like a stranger". He now considers the US and Denver his home and can't wait to be back here again. ^_^

Great to hear someone who loves it here - there are so many who sound miserable and having a hard time to adjust. I personally love it here and although I about once a year think maybe I've been away from home long enough, it's time to go home I just can't. It would be like a reversed homesickness I guess...

I can understand why some might find this country a bit strange sometimes...I'm still amazed at times and I'm still learning about this place but at the end of the day, this place is great!
