Ok, I know this is subjective, but what would be considered a good price for a plane fair to the Philippines? I live in the Midwest area, Michigan to be exact. What Airlines services the Philippines the most?

NWA 'coz their hub is in Michigan. Often there would be a stopover in Japan prior to arrival to Manila or back to the US. Dunno about rates nowadays but given the season, it's usually expensive. Ballpark estimate is around $1500 to $1800 roundtrip. It's best to scout around for rates.

January fares from Kentucky to Manila about $1,300 round trip for mid-January according to most travel sites, and that is leaving from our local airport!

Paducah - Memphis, Memphis - Detroit, Detroit - Mania

That is better than what I was seeing on United Airlines site. I was finding prices of around $2500 round trip. What is considered peak season travel to the Philippines?

The two times I traveled to China I used United.

United is not really the first choice when travelling to the Philippines especially when you're from the midwest or the east coast areas. There are two peak seasons in the Philippines: One is during the holiday season which starts from late October to late January. This is attributed to the high traffic of mostly European and American tourists vacationing in the warm beaches and Filipinos going home to visit their relatives for Christmas. The other peak season is during summer months in the Philippines which start from March to May wherein a lot of Filipinos travel abroad mostly in neighboring Asian countries and the US.

Alright, I like the NWA prices better. It looks like the only place you can fly into the Philippines is Manila. If the place you want to visit is in Tacloban near the south end what are the options?

as for domestic flights i bought tickets from PAL..

try also cebu pacific and air philippines...

Tacloban is in the eastern center of the the Philippines. You would need get a connecting flight to Tacloban City which is one hour away from Manila. Don't worry about rates to Tacloban as standard one-way rates go for an average $75. But I do recommend that you fly Cebu Pacific going to Tacloban. If you book early, you can avail of promo rates of $20 inclusive of fuel surcharges and travel taxes. :)

We have also been checking www.nwa.com lately, and for the last week of November Detroit - Nagoya Japan - Manila Philippines total price for round trip would be $1200 (including taxes)...

Check out the ones that leaves on Wednesday and it is always much cheaper.

Good luck and have a safe trip!

If there's one thing I really don't understand about NWA is that their rates are more expensive on weekends. Is there something equivalent to a happy hour in NWA? :hehe:
