Hey guys

Since I'm becoming a permanent resident, and of course it's my first time working in the US.. I wanted to know if i work for a company that requires you to have a US high school diploma or equivalent.. what are my options?

I got my diploma from my Mexican h.s.

Is this going to matter?

Should I tell them i have a Mexican Hs.. diploma?

I still have some time till i can start working.. . and some company's do really deep background checks and education backgrounds?

If you are able, get a copy of that Mexican high school diploma. For most American employers, it is the equivalent of an American high school diploma, but you can be prepared to produce it if asked. Unfortunately, many employers have a certain level of mistrust of people from some cultures, including Latin Americans.

If it comes down to really seriously transferring your classes credit for credit, below is the link to the official company that is recognized in the U.S. It does cost about $130 or so from what I remember, but it is well worth it if you have 2-3 years of college credits from another country and want 2-3 years worth of credits transferred to an American university. In your case, I don't think this will be necessary, but here is the website: http://ece.org/

Good Luck!

If you can get an official copy of your diploma and/or high school transcript(s), that should provide sufficient evidence of a US high school diploma.

There are many websites that discuss US diploma equivalencies: http://international.unt.edu/credentials/e...encies/level/hs

Here it states that a Bachillerato is honored.

In Canada, we have to contact the district in which our school was located, i.e. School District 57 in British Columbia was mine. I assume it would be similar in Mexico.

Good luck!

My husband too is from Mexico and he's working on the GED just to be safe. He just took the pre-test and waiting on the results from that before he takes the actual test itself. They have it in Spanish too if that would be easier for you. I know my husband preferred Spanish. Hope that helps :star:
