I emailed my lawyer's secretary for advice on my case and he emailed me back generic answers. I think he is a computer or something. I do not think this guy is even real. Any experiences from you all with this site? Here is the address: http://www.usavisanow.com . My wife and I hired him last year and he emails all the documents filled out and then what you do is sign them and mail them to his office. It kind of slows down everything. I have to print them out, sign them and then mail them to my wife and then she sends it all to the lawyers in a yellow envelope and vanilla file folder. I tell you he has messed up on our papers numerous times. We have been through h**l with these lawyers! I would already be approved and well on my way to being in the USA with my wife by now if we had not hired him. We owe him the rest of the retainer fee upon receipt of the NOA2 which is not very well earned. So, what should we do?

Advice to all of you: Lawyers are gold-diggers! Our lawyer aka Maritza Diaz/John Dorer are just money hungry! Whatever you do-do not use them! OMG! The do not give a d**n if we get approved or not. I wrote them in reference to my case and they said "we have to wait for NOA2". Good grief! Is that the best he can do. What kind of legal advice is that? He even messed up on our papers the first time. God knows what he sent to USCIS. The downside is you never now what they sent and if it is sent at all until he emails you a copy of your NOA which good because you get it from him and do not have to wait for it to get in the mail. Other than that it is a waste of good hard-earned cash! Go about it alone my best advice to all of you and just consult with the members here on VJ!

For most people, it seems to be simpler to complete the paperwork themselves than deal with an attorney. I'd only observe that any lawyer who advertises that you'll get a visa more quickly through his office is simply a liar. USCIS cannot be rushed by anyone, and generic answers is all that a lawyer can give. The same answers as the USCIS would give you, if you called.

Unless there are serious questions about your case, your lawyer should get the NOA2 quite soon.

I agree. I considered a lawyer, but after looking into what the lawyer wanted me to provide, i was wondering what the heck I needed him for. Frankly the paperwork to fill out is not so difficult, it is compiling all the other things. Since you have to do it anyway, you may as well fill out the paperwork too.

Regarding the comment about lawyers being gold diggers, I send an email to a law firm that said maybe $2000 for a K1. I was thinking it was really high, but the web-site looked good, so I thought I would pay extra if needed to have a good lawyer :bonk: . They called me, I explained my situation and they send me a quote for $12,000. R U KIDDING? I ignored them, so they called me again, I told them the price was ridiculous - I even asked it that included airfare or something - they werent even in the ballpark. They said it didnt even included the visa fees. So I asked for a breakdown. They said no problem. I got two line items and a total. They did call again and agree to reduce the price to $10,000 - WOW, what a bargain. Fortunately, I found this web-site and never looked back. Of course I am not through the process yet, but I cant see any reason i would hire a lawyer. If I were to get rejected for some reason and couldnt figure it out, then I would consider it, but nothing here is rocket science, just time and effort - which you need to make whether you have a lawyer or not.

Good luck!!

My lawyer has delayed my case by 3 months minimum. It has been a nightmare. I see good and bad things here about lawyers. Take the $2k they charge you and set it on fire. At least it'll keep you warm for a few minutes.

My hubby, then fiance, used a lawyer for the petition process...And yes, a lot of the communication was by email with attachments to print and mail etc...But it was worth it in the end. I guess, like anything else, it's a 'lucky dip' situation.

I hope things go a lot smoother for you! :star:

Greetings all, I hear that!! I am familiar with this company, and I also got quotes from other attorneys who scour these sites looking for applicants, of $1200 to 4500.00, (when i was ready to file) .I said NO, I ordered the Immigration kit from this Visanow company you discuss. I wanted to to have a working set of papers and example forms to lay out next to mine, to make sure everything was right, and i was too lazy to print out every form and example on the VJ site

After I started looking at their forms and comments, much of it was outdated, and/or changed and i sent 2-3 emails telling them, but never even got a thank you relpy for the updates and I'm sure they were never changed. I confirmed my mistakes thru Vj and the Embassy Website before I wrote them, so basically the $50.00 Guide helped me on a couple of forms that I could have got from VJ anyways

When my close friend paid $1800 for his attorney in June, he asked if I wanted to use his when I was ready 2 months later. Here it is November, I'm still waiting for NOA2 going on 4 months and he hasn't even started his Packet 3 yet as mine is all done and ahead of schedule, and he hasn't got his NOA2 yet either. When I asked him how this could be as mine was signed for in July, he told me his attorney never even got it in the mail until August, so now I am AHEAD of him!!! And I didn't pay a penny. I asked him if maybe he delayed his paperwork and he tells me he mailed everything to them on June 19th.

If you want things done right, do them yourself and with all the help from VJ, there's NO reason for anyone to EVER hire an attorney for anything to do with this procedure, IMHO

be well,

JB

Hello! My wife thinks the lawyer slowed us down tremendously. He had us wait 8 months because we did not have a co sponsor for our affadavit of support. After May my wife got eager to follow through with the applications and said we are starting it without the co sponsor. We ended up contactig the lawyers in June and finally got the files sent out in July to the Chicago Lockbox. Because if we had waited any longer we would never have gotten the ball rolling.-As we all know the waiting lines at VSC are not getting any shorter, if anything they are getting longer day-by-day. So I am glad that we are finally in the midst of all this even though it is going by slower than we had anticipated ad no touches for 104 days. It is really frustrating to think we have to be apart this long due to negligence on the lawyer's behalf.

Samir, we both knew we could do it without him...but we wanted to make sure the file was neatly arranged and look suitable for the USCIS to view to prevent an RFE. In the longrun we'll be thankful we used him after all is said and done. God's willing! Good luck to all of us!

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I was one of three K-1 applicants present for the K-1 interview... the other two both had lawyers and both received wrong advice (i.e. that they can work once the enter and that they didn't need originals at the interview (i.e. birth certificate). Their visa's were significantly delayed... :( . I met another lady who paid 5k for a lawyer and she was on month 16 waiting for her K-1 to process. Neither of these applicants heard of VJ, adn when I recommended it to them, they all said they would still trust a lawyer... Maybe i'm a poor spokeperson, but VJ has save my fiancee and I great headaches......

Hiring a lawyer is a waste of time and money. Like I said before... Take 18 one hundred dollar bills, and set them on fire. It will keep you warm for 5 minutes. Hire a lawyer for family immigration, and it will delay you months.

When we first filed we knew nothing about the process and were very intimidated by it so we thought it would be best to hire a "professional" so that things would go smooth without any mistakes...boy were we wrong! Shortly after filing we discovered VJ and realized that we just wasted time and money by hiring him! It has been a nightmare....he even sent our K1 petition to Nebraska!!! We also received an RFE because he told me that I didn't need a passport photo.....I estimate that our case was delayed by no less than 6 weeks by hiring him and most of the time the attorney doesn't even prepare the petition this is usually farmed out to someone on their staff!!!

For new people reading please know this. People here at VJ are the best! You have support for any questions you have and a lot of love to help you through the difficult wait. If your case is simple without any major issues you do not need an attorney in our opinion. Everything is very simple to file and like I say you have all the resources you need here at VJ to get you through the ENTIRE process.

One of my friends hired a lawyer for her AOS. It cost $1,500 excluded fees for AOS. It took 8months to get her GC and there's no RFE,I think she was so proud to hire a lawyer because she keep bringing it up. If I compare her case to me, I think I did a good job with Vjers because I waited less than 6months with RFE back and forth (for both AOS) and also my K2 were rejected but adjudicated on same date of my AOS approval.

Personally, I still have phobia with incompetent lawyers and if I will hire a lawyer, I'm gonna check their performance before I hire him/her.

I think it's a bad thing these people take advantage of people due to their fear of this process. They take your money, and don't do anything. If you can file a 1040 tax form, you can make it through this process without a lawyer.

POE DFW 2009-03-07

Received SS card 2009-03-17

Received GC 2009-04-01

Done for 3 years or 10 years. Haven't decided yet.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!
