IN light of that last post, I make a motion we castrate all persons having been convicted of a (1st degree) rape and then again, found guilty of rape.

That sounds all black and white until you or someone you know, God forbid, is accused of raping a woman. There have been plenty of cases where someone was falsely convicted of rape, spent years in prison, only to be exonerated later on by DNA evidence. Even in a case where the defendant admits to have sexual relations with the woman but says it was consensual. Once you start thinking of all the possible scenarios (date rape, etc.) you might think twice about the idea of instituting permanent castration a just form of punishment.

Who cares if you 'shoot' a few innocents so long as you get the rapist bastards? Seriously, if you weren't all woosy about human rights, there would be no crime. Idiots!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Life's problems just look a lot less troublesome when you see everything in black and white.

You want to know who cares? Those who are wrongly accused, and the people who are related to the wrongly accused. Do the wrongly accused not have rights?

My husband was wrongly accused about something, and even though he was cleared, it cost us thousands of dollars, and we (including my children) have been affected emotionally in ways you can't fathom. How do we deserve that? If he hadn't been cleared (in this case, it's not that uncommon), he'd have been possibly jailed, deported and probably banned for life from re-entering the country. Since my children are here, and my ex won't even let me take them out of the country to VISIT, I'd have to go back to life before the visa - visiting him when I can afford to visit, and crying while I'm gone because I miss my kids. Although, in that case, there would be no end to it, short of forgetting about him, or waiting 13 years until my youngest is 18, and then moving there.

If there's no doubt someone is a rapist (or whatever the charge), that's one thing. But I hate this "who cares if we get a few innocent people in the process" mentality.

Think about if one of the innocents you don't care about getting 'shot' was your father, brother, boyfriend/husband, or SON.

Clearly, I don't care about that, after all, if you have nothing to hide, you will not be 'in the frame' in the first place. Rapists need to be shot, that's the bottom line and anyone who gets caught in the cross fire, so sad, too bad.

I agree with you, thats why I said he would have to be found guilty of rape again.

On a second offense, the "I am innocent" line is kinda weak.

I don't know...thinking of all possible scenarios - there is a probability of a man being falsely accused of rape by more than one woman. Our justice system - as good as it is - isn't perfect and there have been a lot of people falsely convicted and sent to prison. I side with the wisdom we learned back in school when we read about the Salem witch hunts - "better to let a thousand guilty go free, then to have the blood of one innocent on your hands." There are some real bastards out there roaming about free....who should be behind bars. I think we'd better to spend our energies on preventing future rapists and teaching women self-defense...methods to protect themselves from sexual assault.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Its not inconceivable that someone could be falsely accused the first time and then targetted by a money grubber the second time on the basis of the first accusation. Clearly there are no hard and fast rules to this - much as Danno might want to pretend otherwise.

Which is why when someone says they've come up with a new and interesting way to save society from itself - the ideas are often pretty dumb.
