I am a few days shy from going for my IR-1 interview and yes I am nervous about what’s going to happen in a few days time, but I was hoping to get a picture of what to expect once I am in US.

Me and hubby will be living in Evansville, Indiana to be precise for the first few months/1 year maximum but afterwards we do plan to move out of that city, not sure where, but we do plan to.

I do understand that my graduation degree from India won’t be of much use and I might have to study things all over again, what I want to know is--- Can I start with any technical or degree course in Evansville and then can I have my course credits transferred to another college when we move out of Evansville?

Thanks a bunch for your replies  .

a University is not required to accept transfer credits though they for the most part do. It will depend on the technical degree\school attended and the ultimate final school as to which credits transfer...

YMMV

Thanks a lot.

So basically before I get admitted to the local college/school in Evansville I have to confirm that their credits can be transferable, plus I also will have to verify if the new college I plan to get transferred to accept credits or not.

Both colleges/schools have to be under same University? Or University transfers are also applicable, at least in India they are.

The conversation with the local school should happen regarding there experience in credit transfers... they will know that 95% will transfer to IUPUI but maybe 80% will only transfer to Ohio State..

If the colleges are under the same University then the chances of 100% credit transfer is increased...

It depends on the college you are planning to attend, so the best thing would be to give them a call. Some require you to have a student visa and other don't really care. What matters most is your status since your tuition will be based on it. My husband's school charged him resident's tuition which is a lot less than out of state tuition just because he has his green card, even though he had only been in Colorado for 3 months.
