HIya,

When we get married and I change my name to my US citizen's surname, will I then have to legally change my name on my Australian passport....I ask this as legally my name will [then] be my husband's name and to use my Australian passport as a valid form of identification, to book flights in and out of the country (in years to come), to open back accounts etc, I will need to have eveything in my [new] surname.

Would this be something I would have to speak about with the Australian Consulate/passport authority or the US consulate?

thanks in advance!

I am not sure how is works is Australia, but in Canada when we renew our passports with our new name on it, we submit a copy of the marriage licence and there's some form to fill out asking how the name is to be applied (ie first name husband's last name, first name maiden name husbands last name)

I am not sure this is a consulate issue, certainly not a US consulate issue as I have not notified them. Good luck

hiya

i have been marrid for about 2 and half years now..i still have my maiden name in my passport when i travel i carry my birth certificate with me .. and also carry my greencard with my marriage certficate...but if you havent changed your name in your passport when you travel overseas book the ticket in the name in your passport..

to open bank accounts you will need your marriage certificate for quite a bit if you are opening a joint account .. drivers licence ...

take a look at the passport website for australia.just google australin embassey in u.s.a...and look at living overseas....there are a few australian embassey's around the states...you would have to send it to one close to you with all the documentation they need and pay a fee..

good luck on your journey
