Hi Forum,

i haven't been here in a while cuz i was in South Africa. As upon my return i was well prepared with all my documentation at the POE at JFK.After a 20 fr flight and about 1 hr waiting for the us citizens/permanent resident line,i was expected to go for secondary inspection. It was early in the morning and a few officers were waiting as they were processing cases from a plane that just had arrivied from India,so it was very hectic and kids were crying loudly.I handed my paperwork to the immigration officer who was very friendly at that time to me,but seemed to be annoyed by the fact that kids were out of control.Afer approx. 20 mins. he looked and smiled at me and ensured me that it wouldn't be 2 much longer and about 10 mins later he called my name and said "ma'am you're rady to go,let me give me your paperwork back",referring to the extesion letter. This is when the chaos started, the extension letter was nowhere to be found, the officer admitted that he couldn't work under such a stress and with crying kids around(not my kids,i don't even have kids). He then apologized and ensured me not to worry about the extension letter he lost.At this point i wasn't happy anymore, being organized with all my paperwork so i asked kindly to please look again to find my paperwork, with an answer "Don't worry you'r ein the system, you don't need it",knowing that this letter is the only proof from my current status right now.I insisted to talk to a supervisor is i started to get annoyed now by the whole situation, trying to explain with an example as what if something happends as an emergency in my famile and i don't have the letter anymore? The officer agreed and stamped my passport for an extension for 6 months,my extension letter was gona expire next month anyways. The stamp looks like a normal visa stamp,is this what a I551 stamp looks like?

However, the stamp he gave me doesn't look like the stamp above,it looks like a normal visa stamp written with date till may 09.What should i do now?

Hi, cutenurse. My stamp doesn't look like the one in the pfhot either. It's a stamp on which they handwrote the expiration date. I already trraveled out of the US with it and had no problem at all.

I meant "the one on the photo". Sorry, typo

HI Dara,

Does the stamp you have mentions that you're allowed to travel and work, cuz my stamp doesn;t mention that?

Sorry your letter was lost. However, I am glad you received an extension of 6 months.

It'sa regular visa stamp what you normally receive at the POE,so not sure if that's okay, and i'm still very annoyed about the lost letter!
