I get probably 85% of all my meat from a friend who has a farm. Best meat I've ever had and 100% natural, no hormones, antibiotics, etc. I go to their farm all the time and it it's super clean, nothing like that going on. Personally I think anyone who does raise animals like the video shows, should be somehow punished......that is not humane. The people give a bad name to other farmers.

Did You Know?

From July 1998 through the end of 2005, PETA killed over 14,400 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals" -- at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. That's more than five defenseless animals every day. Not counting the dogs and cats PETA spayed and neutered, the group put to death over 90 percent of the animals it took in during 2005 alone. And its angel-of-death pattern shows no sign of changing.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

The fact that they are federal tax exempt is astounding...to the tune of several billion $$$s. There is a petition on that website to sign by people trying to get that removed.

The only reason these animals are put to sleep is because of irresponsible people who let their animals breed and then the young can not find homes so there is no other way but to put them to sleep. PETA or any other animal charity does not have the money to keep these animals living for the rest of their lives, if they are unable to find them new homes what choice do they have? And extremely sad as it may be, at least they do it 'humanely'!!! What other choice do they have, they aint magic you know ... it all starts with the pet owners that dont spay or neuter their animals!

My hubby owns a custom meat processing plant and has been a butcher for 24 years, so all the meat he deals with is bred very locally and treated well. Most of his customers he has known all his life and he sees how they raise their cattle and hogs. Not all places are bad, but there are some out there.

I look at the post several time trying to decide so I respond or not. These "videos" PETA are showing on these web site is for one thing and one thing only, TO RAISE MONEY.

I have been in the meat packing house business for 22 years. Let me start off saying NO DEAD ANIMALS ARE SLAUGHTER FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION!!!! From the time animals arrive at the plant they are under USDA control, not the plant or company. Every meat packing plant in America has at least 10 USDA inspector. When a cattle truck arrives at the plant, the driver heads to the stockyard "holidng pen". The guys who work in the stockyard at the plant, finds a pen for the cattle to be place in. They make sure the pen has fresh running water and feed. The USDA inspector takes the paper work from the driver, the driver opens the gate on his truck and the cattle come off. The USDA inspector is standing there watching the cattle unload from the trailer. If the USDA inspector notices a cow that seems to be ill, cripple that animal is cutting from the herd and place into another pen. Every morning for any animal is slaughtered, the USDA inspectors comes to the stockyard to inspect all animals. The USDA inspector does random "drug"test, skin test and recheck animals before they are allow to leave the pen and head to the "killing" floor. Once on the killing floor, a USDA inspector recheck and take 4 oz of blood, by the way 2 oz of blood is collect from every animal and place in a gallon jug FEDEX everyday to the America Cancer Research for cancer research.

Women love their make up. Every women should know that the cow hoofs are use to make cosmetic for women, the brushes you use to apply to the make up are made from cattle. Have you ever took medicine which has a "gel" coating? The gel used for these coating on drugs are made from cattle.

One has to remember this, cattle, chickens, turkey, hogs are raise for one thing and one thing only and that is for meat for us to eat!!!!

I don't agree with treating animals poorly but I have to point out that there are humane ways to slaughter animals to eat. I also don't agree with pumping the animals full of growth hormones and junk to get more meat out of them. This is nothing more than a prime example of how greedy people are today. What we should realize is that whatever is put into those animals WILL make it's way into OUR bodies when we eat it. It's really no wonder that so many Americans are overweight now more than ever. HELLO!! We're eating the same growth hormones that those animals are being given!!! DUH!!! If you look for "organic" foods then you can rest assured that you're not getting those hormones and all that other bad stuff and there are meats in the grocery stores that have the organic or natural stickers on them. This is not limited to the animals we eat but extends also to the fruits and vegatables we eat as well. If the farmers are using sprays to help the vegetation grow or pesticides and such, you're eating those poisons as well. We just have to be conscious of what we're putting into out bodies.

I agree, but I believe that site stated that the humane society (whatever it's called there) a few miles away managed to find homes for around 75-80% of their animals. That's a bit of a difference in results.

Aww GS, they are adorable!

I manage a boarding facility, and we often help out a local no-kill shelter by providing boarding for pets in transit to a new home, or older dogs they don't have room or time to deal with. We have kept two dogs who were supposed to be with us temporarily for over a year now. Through this time, I have decided no kill isn't the most humane way to go either. Despite our staff trying their best to give these two love and affection, it really isn't enough and is no life for an active animal to live in a kennel 24/7. So here is the result of my big ol'heart

DSCF0026.jpg

This is Missy, she came to us last year through the organization, because they did not have room for her at the time. She was originally given up by a family because they "thought" she might be pregnant and didn't want to deal with it. My understanding is that she has been within the system for at least a year and a half bouncing from one place to another. She has been difficult to place, because of her selective protective aggression. I initially brought her to my home about six weeks ago in order to work with her so she could find a home.........well she has found one! She has went through the process of becoming a permanent resident In my home, not only do I now have a new pet but a multitude of bouncy balls all over my floor. She now has an adorable terrier hair-doo, her own personal spot on the sofa, walks everyday, three boys that adore her, another dog as well as cat that are quite envious, and one huge spot in my heart. I realised last week, that not only have I given her joy, she has made me happy again which is something I have not always been in the year plus we have been dealing with immigration. She demands so much attention, which in turn keeps me busy, and each time the ball is tossed, some good belly rubbing is given, or a treat is handed out you can see in her response how very happy she is. Every time I am on VJ, you can almost bet she is standing next to me dropping a slimey ball in my lap waiting for the next throw.

But they didn't evolve to be a food source for humans, no more than a tree's ecological role is to provide timber.

Previous to visiting America in 2002, no meat had passed my lips for a good 2/3 yeas, and until going back to the states in 2005 to see my fiance, I ate no meat in the intervening time. The first place I ate in the U.S on my first visit was a hooters, and I asked if they had anything other than salad as an alternative to meat and poultry, the look I got from the waitress was more than enough to put me off asking the same question anywhere else I ate.

There seems to be a prevailing attitude, that the world we live in and all it's contents are there almost solely for our use (or abuse), and anyone that seeks an alternate way is to be viewed as a nutter, especially when it comes to eating meat.

For those people that do run thier small farms humanely, well done to you, but for every small farm that operates in this manner, there's a large factory farm that operates in a way less than savoury manner.

My old next door nieghbour was a trucker and used to drive cattle trucks to such places, and he said in the 5 or so years he was a cattle truck driver, not one of the places ever actually treated the cattle with anything less than contempt.

PETA aren't the only organistaion that show and distribute this kind of 'propaganda', so is every animal cruelty charity that film and distribute similar footage trying to... actually trying to what? if thier aim is to get people to look at alternatives to eating meat, and to get people to treat animals humanely, where's the wrong in that?

Big meanie.
