This is not a thread to say ' stop eating meat' because I realise that is never going to happen. I just wanted to open peoples eyes up to the ignorance which is associated with meat. People see it in packets on the supermarket shelf and dont think where it truly came from. Just wanted to make people aware of the choices they make when they eat some of this stuff.

:( I don't like the living conditions, and some of the ways potrayed in this video but it is the food chain. I never looked at a package of meat and assumed the animal it came from died of natural causes. These peta videos only focus on a few farmers/workers or let us say a few dumb arces. I grew up in farming family/community, there are things that HAVE to be done, not always the easiest thing to accept. Don't recall the men of my family running around beating on the animals, that had a destiny with the deep freeze, but when the time came it was done as swiftly and humanely as I guess it could be. Nobody ever complained at the Sunday dinner table, about how cruel Grandad or Uncle whoever was for slaughtering the meal they were putting in their stomachs. Farming is run by corporations, and the government for the most part now and within these systems your going to have idiots, who happen to get caught on America's not so funny videos.

Many thing shown in this are just normal things that take place. For example the crippled poultry, that happens on a normal farm setting where there is no crowding or foreign diets being fed, they are just prone to disease in the legs. Castrating bulls, well it is far easier, less stressful and painful than taking Rover to your local vet for a similiar procedure.

My sixteen year old came home last week, after seeing this or a similiar video. He was ranting and raving about being a vegetarian, that animals were treated so cruely etc. The only thing I could say to him, "you have been eating meat for years, how do you think it got to your plate", and something along the lines of "maybe vegetables have feelings too, when you slice them and boil them how do you think they feel".

P.E.T.A has done some good things, and brought many things to the public's eyes, which in turn has hopefully helped some of the circumstance we see in this video. On the flip side of this, is just what I mentioned above, not everyone raising what we put on our tables is an absolute idiot!

Not trying to sound harsh I don't like most of what I saw, but then I don't like watching Jaws, or Fluffy the lion running down an antelope.

I'm all for 'no cruelty to animals'. I didn't watch the video, cause I don't want to be sickened at the moment. But I have to agree with everyone here, this probobly shows the worst of the worst caught on film. There are plenty of nice human on human cruelty videos out there too.

The problems lie with the humans, not the fact that the animals will be eaten. If they were wild animals they would be eaten too. In the wild they would likely have a painful and slow death compared to what the majority will suffer at a farm.

I'm curious, does PETA ever reveal who the culprits are, and to whom they sell their "goods" so that those that feel strongly about cruelty (as if anyone couldn't?) can boycott those that are guilty of these acts? To show general videos of cruelty tends to just be sensationalism otherwise, and doesn't really seem to make a difference in the big picture unless the source is known.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, critical, or a smartass, I am asking seriously because I don't know that much about PETA, except to see the protests and generalizations...to blanketly say "eat veggies only" really doesn't cut it for most people.

 Can't find anything that points to a list for cruelty free producers. I think they just don't want us to not eat any sort of meat, so that puts roadkill stew off the menu! I am quite sure you could find the names of the persons or companies in which they film. Looking through their site and others, seems we as consumers shouldn't use anything that has ANY form of animal products including such things as bees wax and lanolin (no harm to the animal for these products).

Interesting site> http://www.activistcash.com/organization_overview.cfm/oid/21

For instance, when PETA learned that the photographs of Holocaust victims displayed in its roving exhibit -- entitled "The Holocaust on Your Plate" -- included Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel as a young man at the Buchenwald concentration camp, it shrugged. "Six million people died in concentration camps," laments Ingrid Newkirk, "but six billion broiler chickens will die this year in slaughterhouses." :o Oh boy!

I have to do it................

As most of you know, hubby and I run a beef farm here in the Blue Ridge mountains.

Our cows and steer are treated with kindness and actually get nothing but the absolute best of treatment starting with making sure they are comfortable and have fresh ear/fly tags every spring and fall, they are wormed twice a year and vaccinated once. If any of them fall ill (which has happened just twice in the 3 years I've been here) they get promptly seen by a vet. Their feed is top notch in quality and nutrition and we make sure the pastures are fertilized every spring so that the grass they eat is rich in vitamins and nutrients. We handle them gently and talk to them as we would any other animal. Any cattle farmer knows that their end product (the beef) will turn out however the steer are treated, handled and fed while they were alive. Any farmer who abuses his meat while it is alive will end up paying badly for it in the long run.

This isn't the ONLY reason I say this, of COURSE ANY animal cruelty is uncalled for in my books. But to abuse an animal that you plan on eating is just plain stupid too.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I look at the post several time trying to decide so I respond or not. These "videos" PETA are showing on these web site is for one thing and one thing only, TO RAISE MONEY.

I have been in the meat packing house business for 22 years. Let me start off saying NO DEAD ANIMALS ARE SLAUGHTER FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION!!!! From the time animals arrive at the plant they are under USDA control, not the plant or company. Every meat packing plant in America has at least 10 USDA inspector. When a cattle truck arrives at the plant, the driver heads to the stockyard "holidng pen". The guys who work in the stockyard at the plant, finds a pen for the cattle to be place in. They make sure the pen has fresh running water and feed. The USDA inspector takes the paper work from the driver, the driver opens the gate on his truck and the cattle come off. The USDA inspector is standing there watching the cattle unload from the trailer. If the USDA inspector notices a cow that seems to be ill, cripple that animal is cutting from the herd and place into another pen. Every morning for any animal is slaughtered, the USDA inspectors comes to the stockyard to inspect all animals. The USDA inspector does random "drug"test, skin test and recheck animals before they are allow to leave the pen and head to the "killing" floor. Once on the killing floor, a USDA inspector recheck and take 4 oz of blood, by the way 2 oz of blood is collect from every animal and place in a gallon jug FEDEX everyday to the America Cancer Research for cancer research.

Women love their make up. Every women should know that the cow hoofs are use to make cosmetic for women, the brushes you use to apply to the make up are made from cattle. Have you ever took medicine which has a "gel" coating? The gel used for these coating on drugs are made from cattle.

One has to remember this, cattle, chickens, turkey, hogs are raise for one thing and one thing only and that is for meat for us to eat!!!!
