I am an American who came to Canada to visit my fiance. I was only given a week to visit, BUT I applied for an extended visit after I got in. Legally, if I got that paperwork sent out BEFORE my visitor's status was up, I was allowed to stay in Canada until I got a response. The estimated waiting time for a response right now is 73 days and so far I have been here for over a month and still have yet to receive a response. While here, my fiance and I got married and are still awaiting a response for my extended visit.

We are unsure as what to do next. I have no health insurance and have already had to make a trip to a clinic. Do we go ahead and apply for permanent residency now? Or should we wait until we hear back about the extended visit? We have no idea as to what form to even begin to fill out next. All of tehse K-forms are confusing and we are very new at all of this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yeah, the K visa stuff isn't going to get you into Canada.

For information on immigrating to Canada, see the forums at http://roadtocanada.com and the application forms are at the Canadian Immigration website Sponsoring Family

May be once you get a canadian green card and work in canada for sometime (6months to a year). You can file I-130 for your wife in a US emabassy in canada. I think the approval is usually 2 to 3 months. Thereafter she will be called for a CR-1 visa interview probably two months after I-130 approval. May be somebody can second this, you probably need to verify all this information first. Good luck!

Canada doesn't have a green card.

I do think that the OP's intent is to remain in Canada, not to eventually move to the US. Someone has given them some confusing information regarding the K visas, as well as Canadian immigration process.

See the info posted at Road To Canada they'll help you figure it all out.
