... if you are hungry enough, troops will eat anything.
Now there's a ringing endorsement.
Eh, that's the same military known for having invented the MRE (officious meaning "Meal Ready to Eat", a triple-lie oft facetiously transmogrified to "Meal Rejected by starving Ethiopians")

For Canadian Forces, the equivalent name was Individual Meal Packet--which, abbreviated, tells about the designer of them (an IMP).

I can remember eating both potted meat and spam as a kid. My mom would buy it all the time and she would also buy sardines and vienna sausages. I have not eaten those in my grown up years but every now and then I like to have a fried bologna sandwich.

Fried bologna rocks!

My son's favorite thing for Mom to make him is what we call a 'special sandwich' - fried bologna, a fried egg, and cheese.

I'd rather eat beans if I couldn't afford decent meat - the trouble is you yanks over sweaten everything. Baked beans are not meant to taste like candy!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Actually, since we invented them....yes they are.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

UK "Baked Beans" (Beanz Meanz Heinz) are nothing more than American Pork & Beans without the pork. Or, in other words, white beans in tomato sauce. Nothing baked about them.

It's a good old UK standby, baked beans on toast (whether or not they are in fact baked) with or without cheese. Many a student has survived due to the cheap and yummy goodness of this combination. It definitely should NOT taste like candy :P

I like SPAM

I gained a new appreciation for it in Hawai'i last year...you haven't lived until you've had SPAM musubi :P

SPAM is a Hawaiian staple. When I think of "Paradise", I think of SPAM.

Anyway.... Since I grew up as poor white trash, I've eaten plenty of SPAM in my time. As long as it's fried, it's palatable. If it's eaten cold from the can.....well, that's disgusting. lol

I grew up eating it - spam musubi, spam in saimin, spam fried rice, bentos at St. Louis Drive Inn with teriyaki spam, fried butterfish, 2 scoop rice and shoyu chicken ...

Now I am veg I miss it from time to time. :crying:

ETA: now that we have a 'local' President who according to the NYTimes likes local Hawaiian food just think, there will be SPAM in the White House!!!!

 As ghallett once stated "every bloke likes beans on toast". Variations of it are standbys in many countries.

IMO, beans-on-toast (or one of its multitude of "local variations") can taste between bland and nuclear, but definitely should not be candylike.

Variations -- burrito, chhole-bhatura, daal-roti, hummus with pita, ...

Spam is standard fare here in HI. If Spam prices rise as a result of this increased demand ####### are the locals going to move to next?

Spam Moco Loco is the breakfast/lunch/dinner of champions here:
