I'm curious if anyone knows how much the bkk embassy(or any embassy I suppose) takes into account the affidavit of support. If I do one myself, it won't be very strong, I stopped working in the states in mid 2007(military) and have just been doing odd things here in Thailand since. Have a bit of money coming in/out of the banks, and could get a job easy in the states, but don't know if they'll just take my word for it  Out of two potential co sponsors I have, one just lost his job, the other just started a new job :( Also, since I will probly be in country for the interview, is it a good idea for them to see me/talk to me as well?

Thanks

I don't know the specifics of BKK, my wife is from Vietnam. But, if you can't demonstrate a way to support your fiance/spouse that will be a big problem. If you have a legit job offer from a US employer that is in writing and verifiable that is good. To my knowledge, if you can't satisfy the financial support requirements, the rest doesn't matter.

The easy way, of course, it verifiable income. But otherwise, if you can show any liquid assets, retirement money, bank accounts and such then you might pass. What they are mostly concerned about is whether someone might end up using social programs, welfare etc (paid by taxpayers). Given that, just passing the poverty income level is pretty fair, I think. Itry and look at the situation from the other side - Do I believe this if a stranger is telling it to me? This makes me really try to prepare for all possible outcomes so that I am prepared.
